So, the neighborhood meeting was a big success last night. More than 30 people came out to meet and share their concerns with Mayor Newsom despite the crappy weather. I forgot my camera, but I was like, I have a cell phone that will do. The pictures didn’t turn out that bad. I got skills.
Residents had a lot of questions. The first half hour or so was spent on WiFi, people kept asking why the Google - Earthlink deal hasn’t been approved yet. Hmm…well that sure is a good question. Mayor Newsom also talked up his digital inclusion plan, which gives people access to computers when they can’t afford them. There were also a lot of questions about MUNI and possible solutions to make it work better, from putting fare inspectors on the busses, which is going to happend later this year, to adding turnstiles on the buses themselves. There was also a lot of talk about a rash of car break-ins around Sutter & Van Ness.
Here’s the actual list of the issues discussed, we were taking notes:
The meeting wrapped up a little before 9PM, we were scheduled to go for about an hour, but the Mayor was still talking with people more than two hours later. So, sorry for the delay in getting the post up, but I was hungry and needed to grab some dinner. I’m going to put up some video of the event later today. We will be having these neighborhood meetings every couple weeks or so. It’s a good chance for you to talk with the Mayor and let him know what’s going on where you live.
All right, just finished my breakfast and I’m headed to the heaquarters. More later…

[…] Okay… so you’ve heard that the Mayor wants to explore the idea of making Muni FREE. What you probably don’t know is he talked about setting Muni free last week at the first of 100 MeetLocally events. We kept it hush hush over here at ActLocallySF.org, just to make sure he was "for serious" as my friend Jared from Boston would say. We have video of him talking to San Franciscans about making Muni free. Check it out!! […]
