Our next stop today is the Linden Lab for a 3PM Second Life event.
Mayor Newsom will appear in Second Life for a conversation with Linden Lab's Philip Rosedale/Philip Linden. The two will discuss the parallels, opportunities and challenges of managing two famously diverse, tech-savvy and dynamic communities with global profiles: the City of San Francisco, and Second Life. Mayor Newsom's appearance is connected with his second inauguration, and he will also discuss his priorities for leading San Francisco over the next four years. Recorded highlights from Mayor Newsom's inaugural speech will be streamed into Second Life at the event kick-off. Read This Posty »

"Every time we take a step forward – on issues like health, the environment, education, homelessness, housing, and civil rights – I thank you for the responsibility you have given me," said Newsom.
Mayor Newsom has just wrapped up his speech, we will have it in its entirety up on the site later today.

Mayor Newsom just said we must implement a congestion pricing plan to protect our environment and help draw residents out of their cars.
"We must design this congestion pricing plan so that it works for San Francisco and is not overly burdensome to working San Franciscans.
This is our future – we can hide from it or we can lead the process to shape it.
I look forward to working with all of you to shape it – so that congestion pricing is affordable for working, middle class families who need to drive because of work Read This Posty »

Mayor Newsom just thanked Mayor Dellums, Mayor Reed and others in the Bay Area for working together to craft this plan.
"We know that keeping San Francisco safe means more than fighting crime. That’s why it was such a milestone last week when the Bay Area launched California’s very first regional emergency coordination plan in our state and nation’s history," Newsom said. Read This Posty »

From Newsom:
"Today I am calling on our School Board to join with me in crafting a community service requirement in all of our public high schools so that public service is a common expectation – a right of civic passage for all of graduating students."
Mayor Newsom talked about one of the cities biggest challenges, homelessness. He renewed his administration's commitment to moving homeless individuals off the streets and into housing. Newsom said, "we are getting out of the shelter business."

Mayor Newsom just pledged to make San Francisco carbon neutral by the year 2020.
"It is a daring challenge – but we will make it a reality by building on our pioneering initiatives – a carbon tax and a local carbon offset plan, a 100% biodiesel fleet, a landmark solar incentive program, a green collar jobs tax credit and innovative green building requirements," Said Newsom. It is official. His father, Judge Newsom just sworn him in. And it's 12:00.
I'm a little rusty on the live blogging. I'll have more photos up shortly.
Superintendent Carlos Garcia is MCing.

Aaron and I are sitting here in the campaign headquarters getting ready for our 7th MeetLocally. We're expecting a good crowd from lower Nob Hill and Russian Hill. I'm not sure if it can top our last MeetLocally at Bernal Bubbles.
After the meeting we're heading out to do a man on the street segment with the Mayor. The plan is to go to Clement St., Ocean Ave and the Castro. Hopefully, the weather will hold, otherwise we're headed to the mall to shoot our second Pet Peeves on the Street. If you see us stop and ask Gavin a Read This Posty »

We've been adding a bunch of new features over the last couple days, maybe that had something to do with it. Anyway, it's all good now. So, go back to acting locally SF.

We are getting ready for our 5th MeetLocally here at the HQ with residents of the Western Addition. The Mayor should be here any minute. Sorry, I haven't blogged in a while we've been adding new features to the site and of course I've been busy adding your Pet Peeves. We have received more than a thousand posts in about a weeks time. So, we've heard your Peeves now we want to hear your solutions. Yesterday, we started the Smart Solutions blog. So send them in today and I will start posting away. All right got to go set the Read This Posty »

So, we just wrapped up the MeetLocally. I almost forgot to mention that Gavin walked in with a huge book of Pet Peeves. I'd say it was about 100 pages of which you had written. He had been reading through them before the meeting and referenced many of them during the MeetLocally, which you can watch hopefully sometime tomorrow. Speaking of Pet Peeves...It's time to get back to posting. I think we need a better system to get them on the site. We are working on that.

Speaker Núñez wrote an article for Act Locally SF today about what he's doing on the state level to combat global warming. He talks about how his 15-year old daughter was the one that prompted him to step up and do something about it:
Fighting global warning is a challenging situation. But we can take action right here at home.
Last year, the legislature did its part by passing Assembly Bill 32, the California Global Warming Solutions Act of 2006.
This legislation is the gold standard for combating global warming. Several other states, and even the U.S. Congress, are using it as Read This Posty »

So, we're going here at HQ. I'd say about there are about 40 people. The first couple questions have been about Healhcare and when the Health Access Plan is going to start.
The questions are moving to quality of life. There's a a ot of concern about break-ins, burglary... The Mayor says they are arresting these people, but they are being released. He says that's why he, the DA and others are in support of bringing a Community Court to SF modeled after NYC to tackle these quality of life issues.
Also, starting tomorrow the Mayor says you only need to remember Read This Posty »

I've taken a short break from posting your Pet Peeves to film our third MeetLocally event. I've posted about 400 Pet Peeves in the last day, but I have hundreds more and I will get them up as soon as possible. Okay gotta set things up.

So, apparently people have a lot of them. I was in a meeting until 11AM and I come back to check my email and I see there are oh...let's say 155 to add to the Pet Peeves blog. I need an intern. And then I go over to our friends at SFist to see what's going on and there is a post about Act Locally SF taking Pet Peeves to the street.
What else, we've got a new article about city schools and giving the Mayor the ability to open public charter schools -- using Indianapolis as an example, by David Read This Posty »

Hope everyone had a great weekend. I did. Took the dog - Axel on a long walk on Saturday. I guess he's a little out of shape. A little kid riding his bike stopped to say, "Daddy...look at the chubby dog."
So, I've been watching the Discovery Channel's Plant Earth. It's pretty cool -- seeing a Great White in slow motion. If you didn't see it this week, I suggest checking it out (even though there is a commercial like every 4 minutes). Speaking of TV we have taken the Act Locally SF to the street, Gavin wants to find Read This Posty »

So, I did my first interview about Act Locally SF yesterday with Caroline Boussenot of Divine Caroline. The ladies of Divine Caroline launched their site a couple months ago. I'll have the interview up shortly. We talked for a while about what we're trying to do with ActLocallySF.org - engaging more people to help form policy that will shape San Francisco. The conversation drifted quickly to Asia, I lived outside Tokyo last year for a couple months in Makuhari, Chiba and she was traveling around Vietnam for 7 months. So, memories of singing "West Virginia" by John Denver with my Read This Posty »

So, I've been busy trying to get people to write more articles for the site. If you've got a great idea for an article let us know. Send me an email. I'm looking for policy papers on crime, housing, education...I'm searching for it all. ActLocallySF.org is your chance to be heard by the Mayor and the public.
How about a little Act Locally SF blog roundup...We've got new people joining every day. Don't be left out.
Our newest member, Rick is posting on cleaning up SF:
