You’re now a SF certified green business and you’re ready to do business with San Francisco’s largest consumer of goods and services…the City and County of San Francisco.
First and foremost, if you are a small business, you need to register as a SF LBE (Local Business Entity) to be eligible to do business with the City. It’s a fairly painless process and there are wonderful people at the SF Human Rights Commission that can help you with the application.
Although there is not a green purchasing program in place, it’s inevitable, as the City positions itself as a leader in the green movement. Until then, registering as an LBE is the best path for results from the City.
The good news is that the Mayor on October 21, 2005 signed Executive Directive 05-106 "Small Business Contracting and Support" which spells out the Mayor’s support of small business utilization by City Departments and "directs each department to have a staff person to work collaboratively with the Small Business Commission." The Mayor reminded the Commission of this directive when he attended their meeting last month.
Wishing all our green businesses a successful future working with our environmentally minded City and County of San Francisco.
