Mayor Newsom,
I live on California Street, between Leavenworth and Jones. My shopping area includes the Cala store at Hyde, Walgreens on Polk, and many coffee shops and small business’s on Polk Street.
Every day I encounter at least 3 men sleeping on the sidewalk. They are filthy and they sure don’t look healthy. I have some questions:
1. Why do we have to allow them in my neighborhood, but not yours?
2. With all the social activism on the Board of Supervisors, why aren’t these most pathetic men given better care?
3. Is it really an important civil right for them to be allowed (or forced) to sleep on the sidewalk?
