On Thursday, April 19, 2007 at 2 pm, the San Francisco Recreation and Parks Department Commission is considering increases to the public park permit fee schedule that could make San Francisco’s parks inaccessible to its community groups and grassroots organizations. This action would raise non-profit park permit fees to thousands of dollars, making park access out of the reach of many non-profit groups. Do we want our parks to be available only to corporate interests and the rich? San Francisco’s parks are our precious resource and must remain accessible to our community without corporate sponsorship. This could spell the end to valued grassroots community events like Dolores Park Movie Night, which are backed by area residents instead of corporations.
