Every day, dog owners feel entitled to toilet their 120,000+ unlicensed dogs on every public and private spot they pass. There’s nothing as revolting as seeing some dog shoot a stream of toxic green urine on someone’s begonias or in a green grassy spot where you want to recreate. Then there’s the noise: one barking dog is worse than 10 car alarms, and can be heard for blocks. And finally, the dog attacks, which are rampant in our parks, where doggers run their animals illegally and irresponsibly. Of course, the doggers are all volunteering in city officers, so wonder the rest of us (the majority — the NON-dog owners) are paying for their free ride.

Don’t lump irresponsible dog owners with the rest of us, especially when suggesting that San Francisco disregards our homeless concerns in the interest of ridding itself of our cherished loved-ones.
One barking dog is NOT worse than a single car alarm, and while an out-of-control barking dog is a nuisance, they represent a minority of the pets in the city.
Make you a deal; you get the homeless off San Francisco’s city streets, and I’ll solve the canine urine and barking problem the very next day.

I love the dogs in this city, and as soon as I cfind a landlord who will let me, I will own one too. Seeing a dog walking down the street, so happy to be out and about, always puts a smile on my face.
The homeless on the other hand, are just as guilty of the offenses you mentioned above as any dog in this city.

I don’t mind the dogs, but keep them out of the parks. Off-leash dogs were banned from city parks until the 70s, yet people still had healthy, happy dogs.
Now every grassy spot in the city becomes a dog toilet. “Responsible” dog owners start wailing at the very hint of restricting their prescious pets’ right to foul the urban landscape, and Selfish dog owners seem to care more about letting their dogs destroy the grass than having the neighborhood kids have a place to play frisbee. Does anyone else remember when Duboce Park was full of PEOPLE on a sunny day? And yes, the grass still stinks of dog crap even after you’re kind enough to pick it up (if you pick it up).
This sort of defiling of the parks wouldn’t fly in NYC, where they have tidy little dog runs, if anything at all. We should follow their lead.
We’re in an urban setting here, and many families don’t have yards, but their kids can’t play in the park without stepping or crawling in dog feces. This is another problem that is driving families out of the city. Parks are for people.
