I am a life-long Democrat to the bone, but when it comes to illegal immigration, I sound totally Republican. I think Gavin Newson’s stated policy of protecting them in San Francisco is 100% wrong.
I have no sympathy for people who have broken the law in coming here. If they are caught and returned to their country, so much the better. I do feel sorry for any children that they have that get caught up in their parents’ legal problems caused by their illegal actions. I do not feel that we are responsible for the situation or need to particularly change our official handling of their situation. The childrens’ parents are responsible for this situation and should have considered the ramifications on their children before deciding to put them in jeopardy.
Raids to remove illegal immigrants are justified. Officials need to treat their children as best they can under the circumstances, but not to the point of mollycoddling the CRIMINALS. That IS what they ARE.
Sincerely,
Amber

It’s so refreshing to see someone else speak out on this issue. I am a registered Democrat as well, and I believe that being AGAINST ILLEGAL immigration IS a LIBERAL view point.
This is not a civil rights issue. This is not racism. I fully support increasing LEGAL immigration. But encouraging people to disrespect the laws of our country and specifically encouraging it in our city is disgusting and absolutely unacceptable. If Gavin does not change his position on this issue, I WILL NOT vote for him - no matter how many other issues I agree with him on.
Amnesty for people who have broken the law is also unacceptable. Change the laws to allow more LEGAL immigration, send back the illegals and allow them to re-apply for legal citizenship.
Although many people might think this is a stretch - I see this as being the same issue as Gavin allowing critical massers to have their way. The message is the same: You’re allowed to break any laws you don’t agree with as long as there are enough of you.
This is an unacceptable position for our city’s leadership to undertake and I’m happy someone else finally has the courage to speak out on it.
