I love this city! It’s been wonderful to me and i want to see it improve. It hurts to see such a beautiful city (1) plagued with graffiti, I don’t know what the intrigue is, but it’s everywhere. Maybe I’d understand if I could actually read what it is, but for the most part, it’s some jerk’s street name or the posse he runs with or whatever and it’s less than artistic to say the least. (2) My car was been broken into twice within a month in the Lower Haight district. I didn’t even bother reporting the second incident because, let’s face it, what’re the police going to do about it? I just quit driving instead and save a ton on parking tickets and boots. (3) I live in the inner Richmond dist. and I go to City College. The commute by graffiti-laden buses takes an hour at least. Why doesn’t the city have an underground rail that goes from north to south of the city in a destination other than downtown? We just added the T-line that redundantly covers that side of town. I feel a little alienated in this corner of the City as far as rapid transit is concerned. In a word of praise, my district is one of the cleanest, safest districts in the City, thanks to the DPT and the Police Dept. (4) The "Elephant in the room", the homeless. What is there that I can do to act locally to alieviate the situation? I’d love to volunteer later this summer to help out. I will be leaving the country for awhile, but send some word and I’ll help out. Is there a number I can call to report taggers?
