Drivers of ramp taxis work harder and make less than any other drivers, not only because they have more work per passenger and less pay too (tips can be nonexistent), they also pay by far the most for gasoline: for me it is a huge problem that I now have to spend about $1000 per month on gas. Last year I got my ramp medallion, yet already the $1200 I earn monthly from it is cut in half by the sharp rise in gas fees. THIS IS A CASE OF COMMERCIAL FRUSTRATION and merits immediate attention. Yet ALL politicians seem bent on keeping any genuine remedy from surfacing. I feel like a member of the Mayor’s Personal Slaves, of a sort the study of history has taught me always has existed, who exist in a small army to buy him and other pokliticans votes by providing a service, for which I myself have to pay.
It is unfair to forbid prices to rise on the theory that our prices are already among the higher nationally. EVERYWHERE drivers are paying for their passengers’ escape from automobiles. THE REAL COST OF TAXI SERVICE IS NOT EVEN APPROACHED BY THE CURRENT FEES ALLOWED, since the real cost should reflect 1) the actual cost of the service, 2) the GREAT increase in gasoline costs, AND 3) the cost of cleanup of the whole ecological mess - which cost evidently nobody in the world is even in line to pay.
