The current premise of rent control is faulty since it has no connection to the income of the people it protects. It should be abolished and replaced with a program in which the city suppliments the rent of poor people. It is causing the small property owner to go out of business. It also essentially demands descrimination in the rental process as it is the kiss of death to rent to a sick, elderly or disabled person. I had a tenant who drove an Alpha Romeo while I worked on my house and drove a 15 year old ford escort. The system is terribly unjust and is descriminating against a small slice of the population who wants to improve the city by helping to maintain it.
