My biggest pet peeve is that when my friend and I visited SF from SJ she got mugged in front of 6 police officers, and they refused to help. They were too busy standing in front of their police cars directing traffic down the only open street, or talking to each other with their backs to the people exiting the bar. I haven’t been to SF since.
