Before i share my issue, I want to say unequivocally, I am more than happy with our esteemed Mayor and the wonderful job he continues to offer citizens of San Francisco. Please allow him know, he IS the man for our city! This being said, I however am not at all happy with what has transpired for us as a family this past two months or so. I hope the Mayor will read this as well. I will also tell him personally as I think these are two very major important issues. I asked Aaron Goldsmith and his team to hold off calling my home, to ask for my services as a volunteer at this time, as my mother-in-law was dying of ovarian cancer. I also told the Mayor’s Press Secretary Mr. Bustos, to make sure it was understood that we are all fully behind the Mayor, but at this time my family and i was needed at my mother-in-law’s side. Unfortunately every couple of days a volunteer would call asking me to come in for one reason or another. [The fact that I am disabled and i can’t access public transit system because it is not wheelchair accessible also has put me at a grave disadvantage, and cut short my independence.] As there is only one car for three people in this family, I had to put the needs of my family first you understand. I share my story because there may be others in the community who may be approached inapproiately, and well losing a loved one is a sensitive issue, and should be communicated to all staff especially when public calls are made. I don’t know what transpired in my message not being shared appreciatively, but it was ignored, right up to the day of the funeral.
Certainly a note should be made for staff members, so a faux pas as this will not be repeated. Secondly transportation for the disabled I think should be addressed. When one can only board a public bus such as the N Judah, and suddenly find out that when they get to the destination of the given area and they cannot disembark because the tram does not have a lift can be a rather shocking and most relevant issue. How many citizens, let alone visitors in wheelchairs are made known that trams as the N Judah after 19th avenue to Sunset Boulevard will not allow them to leave the tram ? [It’s harder still if you only have a manual wheelchair as i have] Any who, these are my pet peeves! I hope I have been able to share a more than meaningful understanding. I believe in acting locally, but making sure it appeases to all universally!
Again, Hooray for our Mayor, he’s our Hero, especially for our family !
