Gavin, I believe that the time has come (actually the time came long ago) to end the last Friday ritual known as ‘Critical Mass’. This effort by bicyclists to gain attention in San Francisco has been going on since I moved to the City 13 years ago, and is even less relevant now than it was at that time. The effect that it has on the City, due to wasted gasoline, increased pollution, and frayed tempers is not worth the potential political fallout that ending this event might have. There is no constructive benefit to having the event-none of the motorists who are inconvenienced by these immature bicyclists are going to give up their vehicles. I myself bicycle as much as I can, leaving my car parked when I go virtually anywhere in the City during the day, but I avoid riding at night, so upon occasion I end up in the traffic jam that results from Critical Mass. I suggest that you offer the organizers of the Critical Mass Event the opportunity to have a ‘Parade’ once a year during a time such that few motorists are inconvenienced, as is allowed for other organizations, and eliminate this event which wastes our energy resources by having thousands of cars idling needlessly, and increases the air pollution in the City for the same reason-all for no benefit…..Thanks!

Honestly, bicyclists seem to have more rights in this city than any other. And they never seem to be happy. Critical Mass is illegal. It is an unlicensed obstruction of traffic and it is time for it to stop. Open the blind eye Gavin.
