I got a letter yesterday from a friend I had written to about the ruination of SF by drunks and those who advocate public drunkenness and its attendant filth (aka "Homeless Advocates"). His response contained a sentence that I think sums it all up: "Living up here in Seattle, I see some of the same creeping consensus to do nothing so as to offend no one but irritate nearly all." Perfect.
This is for Jessica below who has the van in front of her house. You ask what rights you have? In the eyes of the people who run this city: NONE. You work, pay taxes, behave with respect for others. You have no rights, however.
I often think of moving out of SF solely because of the drunks in the street. Almost all of the neighborhoods that I frequent are knee deep in drunks and junkies and the mentally ill. Yesterday I watched a guy deal crack in front of the Westfield center. He was sitting on the wall surrounding the entrance to the underground, in plain sight, dealing drugs. Day before that I watched two cops stroll past a doorway full of drunks, all passed out under the No Trespassing signs posted in that doorway. The cops did nothing. One of the cops looked like he weighed about 300 pounds so he was worthless as far as any form of law enforcement except firing his gun.
Everyday I am on the phone with Central Dispatch trying to get drunks moved. The cops come, say move on, and the drunks just laugh. But if I keep calling, the cops do eventually move them. So I advise, call, call, and call again until the problem is taken care of. The dispatchers say they get "tons" if such calls. I would like to see the Chronicle publish those numbers.
This disregard for the people here who work and pay taxes and the general lawlessness of our streets also explains, in part, the problem with Muni. Why should the drivers care about being on time or courteous? The whole atmosphere here is do whatever you please.
The only solution is to vote the whole Board out of office. This blog is good for venting, but nothing will change until we change the people running the City.

Tell me about it.
The police give me an attitude when I call about the homeless encampment in Hallidie Plaza. They actually tell me that they are down there telling them to move along all day every day and that they just come back. That’s a straight out LIE. My apartment overlooks the plaza and the same group is down there all day every day. They aren’t just “coming back” because they never even move. I see officers stroll by all the time and do nothing about it.
It’s the policy of the SFPD to lie to law abiding citizens and do NOTHING. They don’t do their job and no one is held accountable. They give law abiding citizens attitude when they call as if the requests to live in a clean and safe city is outrageous. I’ll bet most of the police department don’t even live in the city.
I submitted a post about my ordeal last night to this very pet peeves blog and it hasn’t appeared. It was probably removed because of some perceived inappropriate language or something - because you know, worthless homeless drunks that contribute nothing to society have more rights than you and I, and we can’t offend them!
The priorities of this city are so screwed up and the mayor doesn’t care. I’ve heard him several times regurgitate the police department’s line about not doing their job because it’s not a life and death emergency. That would be easier to believe if everytime I saw police officers in the city they werne’t just standing around talking and having coffee - often with illegal activity happening right in front of them.
Vote for anyone but Newsom unless he gets the message and puts the SFPD in line.
For what it’s worth, I wonder how many of those “life and death” emergencies could be prevented if there weren’t hundreds of drunk, high, mentally impaired people just hanging out on our streets.
THIS IS A LIFE OR DEATH/ PUBLIC SAFETY ISSUE.
It is the policy of the San Francisco Police department to LIE to citizens and not do their job. THIS IS UNACCEPTABLE.
