In my continuing frustration walking to and from the Powell Street MUNI/Bart Station to my place of work near Union Square, a friend let me know about this website. Frankly, I am doubtful this will help, but will give it a try. For me, and thousands of others who have to use this station to get to work, this becomes representative of what San Francisco is like to LIVE in. Unfortunately, I do not have the good fortune of working around the Montgomery Station or Embarcadero. Every day without fail, I am treated to what is like a human toilet emerging from this miserable station where I have to dodge aggressive panhandlers (by the way not all of whom are suffering mental illness) and have to watch the floor for urine, cordoned off crime scene tapes with blood stains, and a host of people trying to pawn off street sheets. While not the geographic center of the city, it seems this is hardly the place to be tolerant of such a circus of misery. Are there not more aggressive measures that can be taken by SFPD, Bart and MUNI Police to clean up this considerable mess? Is the legion of recently deployed MUNI police (reminiscent of Reno 911) only charged with hanging out with each other and occasionally checking for fast passes and transfers? Or can they actually get real work to do like watching for our safety? Or do San Franciscans have to wait until the "compassionate" Community Justice Center is debated, approved, funded, and built? I have to say that all the statistics citing improvement will not reduce the constant frustration of navigating through filth and filthy behavior on a daily basis. While this pet peeve may sound like it lacks compassion for the less fortunate, I will say tolerating this disastrous station and surrounding area for years including the entirety of your administration leaves me feeling less than optimistic about the future.

Finally someone else speaks out on this blog.
Unfortunately, Mayor Newsom and the SFPD don’t care and don’t think they have to do their job.
I’ve talked to officers standing around at the cable car turnaround many times, each time I get an excuse that the area in Hallidie Plaza is partially the responbilty of the BART police (by the way, the BART police say it’s SFPD). So apparently, no one thinks its their problem. This is typical of the attitude around this city. Everything is someone else’s problem.
The fact that BART police and SFPD blame each other not only shows their inability to take responsibility, but shows that they don’t even COMMUNICATE with each other.
What a disaster.
Great point, don’t expect Gavin to do anything about it. He and the SFPD don’t care.
