Watching TV peacefully in my living room this evening, I’m disturbed by yelling and screaming outside my window. Granted I live @ Market and Powell Streets, but this confrontation was so unusually loud and heated, it drew me to the window.
I see four people screaming and yelling at each other emphatically waving their arms, getting in each others faces. In short, I see an argument - an argument that could easily escalate into a physical confrontation - or worse.
I call SFPD non emergency. I give descriptions of all four, I tell them about the confrontation and ask them to send officers before the confrontation escalates.
I sit back down to return to TV.
A few minutes later, the screaming and yelling is still happening. I return to my window to now see a group of 9 such individuals screaming and yelling at each other.
I call again the SFPD non emergency. I tell them I called a few minutes ago and they still haven’t sent anyone. I ask them what it will take for them to actually do their job and I’m given the excuse that "there aren’t enough officers to cover all the calls."
As if this is some kind of acceptable resolution.
I had never called the police for any reason in my life until the last month or so. I’ve begun a determined effort to call the police to get them to do their job to protect law abiding citizens and take care of the homeless camping, crack heads yelling and fighting, and people shooting up in doorways around my apartment.
I have NOT ONCE seen an actual police response for any call I’ve made. I have not yet seen an incident escalate into severe violence in front of my eyes - but I know it happens often in the neighborhood. I wonder how many of these violent confrontations, drug deals gone bad, or even murders happened because the police were slow to respond and do their job when first called.
THIS IS UNACCEPTABLE.
When I call because there’s a fight going on outside my bedroom window at 1am, I don’t want to hear excuses about how basically the police cannot do their job.
If there aren’t enough officers, you need to get them. It’s not MY responsibility to figure out HOW to do that - I’m sure it’s very hard. But if someone is responsible for ensuring San Franciscans live in safe neighborhoods, and they can’t get that job done, it’s time to get someone else to do the job.
I’m speaking of Gavin Newsom, Heather Fong, and anyone else who can’t handle their responsibilities.
THIS IS UNACCEPTABLE. Don’t vote for Newsom until he can fulfill his responsibilities to the citizens of San Francisco.

Two shootings happened within a block of my apartment the same day I originally posted this post.
Gavin Newsom, Heather Fong, SFPD: WHAT MORE DO YOU NEED?
DO YOUR JOB!
