I just want to applaud Newsom, Dufty, and Fong for the wonderful leadership being shown with the handling of the Castro Halloween party.
I mean seriously, what’s better than the people who are supposed to lead and be in control saying "we can’t handle our responsibilities, so we’re just not going to this year".
Wonderful.
I mean, yes, it’s true that the Police department can’t handle their responsibilities any other day of the year, and yet Heather Fong still has a job for some reason. The SFPD can’t even recruit officers despite the ridiculously high pay. The officers they do have aren’t very good at doing anything other than standing in groups of 3-5 with cups of coffee chatting while laws are being broken in front of their faces. They can’t control Critical Mass.
But you guys are right. The best way to stop 250,000 people from showing up in the Castro on Halloween is to just not show up yourselves! That will solve all the problems!
No portable toilets? Problem solved!
No street closures or crowd management? Problem solved!
What an incredible concept in leadership! If you can’t handle your responsibilities, just announce that you’re not even going to try! I am SO impressed.
How about this instead.
Allow the party to be what it is going to be. People are going to show up. Streets are going to be closed. Businesses are going to stay open. Go with the flow. Instead of trying to cage thousands of people in a small area, EXPAND the area that is closed off to allow enough room for all the people.
RECRUIT POLICE OFFICERS and HOLD OFFICERS AND HEATHER FONG RESPONSIBLE FOR DOING OR NOT DOING THEIR JOBS!!!!!!!!!
Managing large events is a basic responsibility of the police department - and it appears to be yet another responsibility the SFPD and HEATHER FONG CAN’T HANDLE.
How is she qualified to hold her position?
HOLD PEOPLE RESPONSIBLE. Running away from your responsibilities is not leadership, and it only makes things worse!
