I have lived at the corner of Bartlett and Cesar Chavez for 3 years. Every day, 10-15 men sit on the corner, litter, get drunk, sell drugs, and urinate.
The Board of Supervisors almost did not approve a development across the street which has been abandoned for over 1 year.
The DPW comes by and routinely picks up couches, chairs, and miscellaneous trash when called. They do a terrific job but my pet peeve is;
Why does San Francisco never address the cause and spend so much money addressing the result? I know it is political but downtown and high profile (Golden Gate Park) issues get all the attention. The Mission is a garbage dump (albeit a diverse one that I love and would like to see resuscitated). Why is it impossible to get any city department to care about this problem? I have offered to take photos, identify the culprits, etc. I have called every department I can think of and sadly no one cares.
I like a lot of things I hear from Gavin Newsom but in my world, it is all talk. What can I do and what can the city do to address quality of life crimes that little by little, destroy what used to make San Francisco a great city.
Thanks
Michael Patterson

I also have lived at this location and it is AMAZING to me the amount of trash, etc. - especially when you walk a few blocks to Noe Valley and there isn’t any trash on the sidewalk. Does the city preferentially clean up one neighborhood? It is probably as a result of neighborhood density - fast food places - more homeless - etc. in the Mission. But, I have been many cities around the world including Brooklyn - and the amount of trash in the Mission seems to me inexcusable.
