Dear Mayor Newsom:
I would like to inform you that I am not at all impressed with your plan to give all uninsured residents in San Francisco free health care. I am a seventy one (71) year old woman who has lived in San Francisco for sixty five (65) years. I own a home in District 7 which I have to maintain. I retired from the Federal Government in 1991 after 36 1/2 years of service. I live on a fixed income and receive approximately a 2.9% Cost of Living Increase (COLA) each year. $157.00 is taken out of my pension each month for my contribution to the Federal Employees Health Benefit Plan. So you can see why me and many of friends who are retired and own homes would rather see our property tax dollars as well as other tax dollars that we spend in this city go towards benefiting the people who are paying this city’s bills. I just spent $845.00 to get the climate control repaired because of damage caused by driving daily over numerous pit holes on Los Palmos Drive, Monterey Blvd., Santa Clara, Sloat Blvd. and 19th Ave. It seems as though you and those other useless Supervisors, with the exception of Sean Elsbernd and Michela Alioto-Pier, spend all of the time that you are in office trying to come up with some idea to throw away the tax payers money on Illegal Immigrants and the poor. You also devote a lot of time insuring that the San Francisco Police and Fireman receive a minimum of a 6% salary increase each year. Do they garner so much support from you for a possible vote? Did it ever occur to you that 99% of Policeman and Fireman live outside of San Francisco. They earn their salaries in San Francisco and spend it in other counties. I have even reported a Fireman going into Site for Sore Eyes on West Portal, while two (2) other Firemen in a Fire Engine waited in front for approximately 45 minutes. This at tax payers expense I rode a Muni bus from Castro St. to the West Portal Station one foggy evening around 10:45 P.M., and the driver talked on his cell phone continuously. I reported that to the Inspector at the West Portal Station. Can you imagine him endangering the lives of approximately 30 passengers. Moreover, this city certainly does not need another law suit. I find it appalling that you bleeding hearts in City Government would declare this city a sanctuary city and give identification cards to illegals. I would hope that the Federal Government would refrain from sending federal dollars to this city because of your disregard for federal laws. I would also hope that we would go back to selecting Supervisors at large rather than by District. In that manner you get a better caliber of people and they would have the interest of the city in general rather than their particular district. This city’s rent control laws are appalling. Those who have invested in properties in this city have no say so whatsoever as to the management of their properties. All they are expected to do is pay for it, maintain it, pay property taxes on it and let tenants dictate policy. How absurd Now that I have gotten a few things off of my chest, I will close now. However, there are many more pet peeves that I have as far as the management of and direction in which this city is going.
Sincerely,
Mellownee
