I don’t know if this is a pet peeve or a smart solution. The city’s Sanctuary Law has had the unintended consequence of allowing drug dealers to "hide" amongst those looking for work. This has impeded the ability of the police department to aggressively address drug dealing and the "magnet" issues that come with it (drug abuse, public drinking, public urination, etc.). Isn’t it possible to enact two ordinances that will let people look for work, and let the people engaged in criminal activity "stand out"?
1. I think I have seen your "sit and lie" proposal or loitering proposal. If people are not allowed to hang out on the same corner all day, it would be difficult to "set up shop". Also, couldn’t people who are legitimately looking for work go to regional offices around the city where they could be hooked up with people looking for employees? These two simple activities, it seems, would make the city a cleaner, safer, and more manageable place.
Thanks for listening.
