Hotels and the white zone
November 30th, 2007 10:36 am

I don't know if this really get to gavin, but anyways i would like to ask him y can't he do something about the hotels in SF using the white zones to rent for a limo company who rents it for individuals to use to steal the taxi business and other limo company's business that they spend alot of money on advertising to get it. also what ever happened to equal opportunity rights in this city?. When a hotel permits one limo company to use the white zone for that purpose then other limo company's can not compete unless they wanted to Read This Post »

Homeless advocates blocking enforcement of laws
November 29th, 2007 9:26 am

After C. W. Nevius's article in the Chronicle about the homeless advocates once again mobilizing to block enforcement of laws on living in the Park, I officially give up all hope that the "homeless" problem will ever end. So it's goodbye Main Public Library, goodbye Golden Gate Park, goodbye a major stretch of Market Street (from Powell to Octavia), goodbye to much of Van Ness, goodbye Civic Center. All of these areas are no longer for the majority of the population. They are for the homeless to do whatever they please in. I would just remind people of the photographs Read This Post »

Homeless been a problem since I was born 53 Yrs. ago
November 28th, 2007 9:19 am

In order to complete the mission with the homeless problem to make an astonishing approach you will have to deal with the rest who are uncooperative with enforcement from the police department otherwise there will not be a huge dent in resolving our problem with the homeless here in San Francisco.  I have lived here in S.F. since I was born and now I am 53 years old and l the homeless problem still exist.  We should have taken care of this problem years ago and appears that since you are our new Mayor you are look upon to the Read This Post »

Illegal Aliens Granted IDs
November 26th, 2007 9:30 am

I'm disappointed that the Mayor and City Council voted to give "undocumented immigrants" i.e. illegal aliens an ID card. And by the way calling an illegal alien an "undocumented immigrant"is like calling a drug dealer an "unlicensed pharmacist. Both are against the law. Illegals should be deported back to their country of birth. That is where they're citizens. As a USA citizen I don't have the option of obeying only the laws I agree with. Neither should the San Francisco Council or Mayor. Let the San Francisco Council and Mayor enter Mexico or any other country illegally and see what Read This Post »

Two Dead/eight hurt in S.F./4 Shootings
November 19th, 2007 2:03 pm

This all occurred within 5 hours, I believe they are related to each other, the violence took place not far from each other.  I hope we do not end up rating like Oakland which is Number 4 in the Nation where is not safe.  You need foot patrol police uniform who can tackle this problem that is rising in S.F. which is violence.  Maybe you should think about getting rid of the Chief of S.F. and replace with someone who the Police Officers see as a Leader for the Department. What’s wrong with this picture?
November 16th, 2007 10:20 am

What are you doing for the people who pay taxes in this city and are funding all of your giveaway programs?  I can't afford to buy a home, but I can support the homeless and  pay for healthcare for everyone.  What's wrong with this picture? Jim Marshall Read This Post »

Taxis in San Francisco
November 14th, 2007 2:52 pm

Dear Mayor, Why is it IMPOSSIBLE to get a cab in this city? Why so cabbies drive past with their lights on without stopping? Why are there lines and lines of people waiting for rides and not enough cabs? Why does this metropolitan city pale in comparison to NYC where taxis are concerned? Why are cabs allowed to arbitrarily decide if they want to give you a ride? (In New York City and other major cities, they cannot refuse a ride.) Why should I have to wait on the phone endlessly trying to hail a cab and get nothing? Why does this "green" city not provide for Read This Post »

Reaction to oil spill
November 14th, 2007 2:47 pm

Dear Mayor Gavin, I am totally outraged regarding the poor handling of the recent oil spill in San Francisco bay. As a native Californian I love our California coastline and all of the sea life. I grew up coming to San Francisco to visit my grandmother and my father grew up in San Francisco. Regardless of whether I live in San Jose, the poor reaction to this disaster, has killed hundreds of sea creatures, with who knows how many more to come. This disaster is not just related to San Franciscans. It affects all of us living in Northern California, but mostly Read This Post »

Endorsement of Sen. Clinton
November 14th, 2007 2:44 pm

Dear Mayor Newsom, I do not understand why you have endorsed Senator Clinton.  Based upon the issues, I ask you to take a stand and reconsider.  There are several important reasons and I suggest that Sen. Barack Obama is more deserving of your support. Sen. Obama was a strong vocal opponent of the Iraq invasion back in 2002.  He was in the minority 28 percent of us Americans opposed to the invasion.  I was personally disgusted that Senators like Hilary Clinton, John Kerry, and other Democrats made political calculations about their own careers and popularity back at that time in 2002 and Read This Post »

Time for enforcement
November 14th, 2007 12:17 pm

What is bothering me when we reach the end of the rope in assisting the homeless which this problem has been going on for a long time now.  Since we developed this criminal court system the progress is going in the right direction but what do we do with the homeless who do not comply with the counseling assistance towards a better quality of life.  Since a week ago I have seen at least one homeless person or more sleeping on the streets still.  Yet we as taxpayers are contributing to the cause of helping the homeless which indicates compassion.  Read This Post »

I hope we do not spend too much tax dollars on the homeless
November 13th, 2007 9:32 am

My pet peeve is I hope you do not terminate this site "Pet Peeve" now that you are Mayor again.  I think this site is beneficial for the people of San Francisco and also for you Mayor.  This site is a communication for you as our Mayor and us the People of San Francisco.  So I hope you will continue to keep this site.   I have another concern that is the homeless, I read the article about our outreach and that we are considered as a Model which is great. But my question is what happens to the homeless people Read This Post »

Aggressive panhandlers on Haight
November 13th, 2007 9:29 am

I have been a resident of Haight-Ashbury for over 3 years.  The amount of young, homeless, and aggressive panhandlers on Haight is staggering.  I have yet to see any any improvement, or any plans for improvement.  Please tell me what is being done to curb this problem.  Name Withheld Read This Post »

Police Non-Emergency Line
November 9th, 2007 9:54 am

I sincerely hope you are still reading this site Mr. Mayor, and not ignoring it now that's you've won the reelection. In either event, I have made three recent phone calls to the non emergency police line in the past week to report serious harassment by crack-smoking thugs on the 500 block of Hyde street towards anyone passing by and interrupting their glorious and ever-protected cocaine smoking binge, only to have had the line ring, ring ring and ring...with NO answer!! On the third attempt, they took my info and said someone would be coming right over. 45 minutes later Read This Post »

We need more parking
November 8th, 2007 2:44 pm

I am incredibly disappointed that Gavin came out publicly AGAINST Prop H! We need more parking and the transit first policy is not realistic for a really livable city. As a homeowner with a family and no garage it is incredibly difficult - try going shopping for the week with 5 bags of groceries a stroller w/ 2 year old on muni. There is a lot of talk about trying to keep families from moving out of the City ... further restricting parking doesn't help. Craig Read This Post »

People have to frequently walk through Chinatown to catch MUNI
November 8th, 2007 9:51 am

Problem: The delivery trucks are constantly blocking the roads, and if not the trucks then the boxes and food shipments are on the roads and sidewalks, which means that pedestrians must walk on the roads to catch the buses. This is not only dangerous, it is against the law. Why are you not doing anything about this? Name Withheld Read This Post »

Whatever happened to liberty?
November 8th, 2007 9:50 am

I have heard through the grapevine that Gavin is considering a citywide ban on smoking. I find this to be greatly overstepping his or anyone elses bounds on this one. Regulating other peoples vices, whether they be religion or smoking, should never be voted on. Whatever happened to liberty? The argument that it is an issue of public health is ridiculous. Second hand smoke has never definitively been proven to have caused any case of cancer. Also, even if, as undoubtedly it does,  it has some ability to increase the odds of cancer what in real world terms is that Read This Post »
