I addressed a Pet Peeve of mine in today's "Cheap City" cartoon.
It's on the last page of today's 96 Hours section of the San Francisco Chronicle.
Regards,
Michael Capozzola

My biggest pet peeve right now is the way you pointlessly pick fights with the Supervisors -- even when they are right, e.g., police on the sidewalks -- just to oppose them. I'd rather you ignored them and tried to get through what you think is right. I'd also like to see more hard decisions, like giving Muni higher much priority over the roads, or opposing the initiative to increase parking discussed in today's Examiner.
Thanks for listening.

I live on Monterey Blvd. in the Sunnyside District. The median strip from Forester to Acadia is a wasteland of dirt ,black plastic, weeds and broken and bent trees. There were city plans on the drawing board to plant the median strip with sound deadening plants akin to what has been done on upper Monterey Blvd. as it leads into Westwood Park. Nothing has happened in the years since the proposal was made by the Dept. of Public Works. I even planted a section in wild flowers only to have it ripped up by a maintenance crews who thinks dirt Read This Post »

Not only do they noisily go through the containers on the street all through the night before morning pick-up, but they spill papers and debris all over the sidewalk. I believe that this program has a benefit for the city's parks. Since all the valuable aluminum cans are taken before the recyclers arrive that benefit is eliminated. This is pilfering and it against the law. What about attaching a large sticker on the can stating (in both English and Chinese) that only city authorized recyclers can remove contents in these cans left on the street, and that it is against Read This Post »

I don't believe you acted properly in the manner Laguna Honda was handled. As a result I lost a lot of confidence in you.

Last year upon returning to my home in Eureka Valley from visiting my mother in the Sunset District, I boarded an inbound streetcar and fell; the stairs were not raised to the platform level. Not only did the driver not come to my aid, when I approached him and asked for his name, he refused to give it to me. I went to the emergency hospital and thereafter I leaned that I had fractured my foot. I filed a claim with the City, and was treated with the most most utmost disrespect from the City Attorney's office who called my Read This Post »

For numerous years now (5+), some major roads like Bush and Pine have been haphazardly repaired for potholes or had small repavings after street work. Is there any priority to make these much used commute routes nicely paved. Parts of Fell and Oak were done and it sure makes a difference.

It seems as though a lot of attention is being paid to fixing pot holes and leveling off streets, but not to improving safety standards on the street. If you drive through many neighborhoods, you will see that pedestrian zone paint in the streets, for example, is fading in so many intersections that it is almost impossible to see. Similarly, there are so many crowded and dangerous intersections that need stop lights, not just stop signs. And others that do not even have stop signs. Further, pedestrian safety signage in parts of the city is woefully inadequate. In light of Read This Post »

Please explain how churches receive an exemption for parking in the left lanes and/or medians during church services? Does this not violate the basic spirit of separation of church and state? I know that businesses -- especially restaurants -- have clamored for the right to use these areas for their patrons, only to be rejected, in part because it supposedly poses a safety hazard to emergency vehicles. I live in the Mission, where parking is even more difficult than in the rest of this parking-challenged city. I know many people abuse the church exemption whenever possible. And allowing cars there Read This Post »

It's miserable. It's too cold here. We are trying to grow our own food but it's hopeless. (Thank you for letting me vent.)
Otherwise, I would complain about loud motorcycles and noise pollution mostly from traffic. There are no quiet zones. Not enough trees. And trucks and cars that leave their motors running while parked or double parked.

I can handle waiting half an hour for an N to show up at Carl and Cole during morning rush hour to take me down town. It sucks but it happens so frequently Iím used to it. I can deal with the cattle-car conditions on the N itself hundreds people packed in like doomed galley slaves. I can withstand the constant barrage of delays in the tunnel. I've even grown accustomed to the terrible customer service: the surly, mean, dismissive attitude shared by most Muni drivers. These drivers routinely display the stereotypical worst behavior of the protected civil servant whom Read This Post »

Littered streets with garbage and newspapers on Fillmore & Sacramento Streets area. Also the homeless and drug dealers in this area as well. Several have been sleeping on sidewalks & deal drugs on the street corner - it is disgusting.

My husband is the chef at Globe. The restaurant does a service to the city by serving good food until 1 AM.
Since BART doesn't run much past midnight, he has to drive. The meters/tickets are outrageous and to park in a lot monthly is also outrageous. What's the solution?

I have lived in SF for 4 years now and have seen NOTHING that leads me to believe these specific problems are getting any better. SF prides itself as being liberal and kind-hearted. Does this mean simply IGNORING an absolutely psychotic and threatening individual on the street to intimidate others? I see the SAME 2 dozen or so mentally ill people downtown where I work on a daily basis and it just doesn't seem like anyone really CARES!! It does them NO GOOD to simply shower and shave them then throw them back onto the street. What needs to be Read This Post »

We spend zillians fixing a freeway ramp that probably carries fewer people than the Muni tunnel, yet we won't put up the resources and priority required to make Muni run properly. If our city's economy is to function in the future, Muni absolutely must be given far, far higher priority to the road space.

I'm not talking about the homeless folk or old asian ladies who gather a few beer bottles with gloved hands or picker sticks from your blue bins, no big deal there, except when they toss garbage all over the street .
I am talking about the organized teams and crews who drive cars and trucks around the neighborhood systematically looting every deposit bottle from each container on the block. Certainly this must result in higher fees for all of us who thought we were contributing that value to whomever holds the trash pickup contract with SF.
Here is the CA license license Read This Post »

When is something going to be done about the high level of crime in this city? I live at ** Eddy, across from Jefferson Park. I just read about the third murder at the corner of Laguna and Eddy in less than three months. It is unbelievable that murderers are so blatant in their taking of life!
I attended the neighborhood meetings at the time the public housing was in the building phase after the slum had been pulled down. Constantly the question was asked, "Who will be living in the projects and how | |
