City allowing businesses to install and maintain promotional mini-billboards on our public streets and sidewalks in violation of local, state and federal codes.

Day after day you see sidewalks and streets cluttered with printed advertisements that have been put on door knobs, posts, and fences. The major culprit seems to be restaurants with "to go" menus, but many other businesses leave unwanted and unsolicited junk mail on a regular basis.
The City should create an Opt-Out register for this kind of advertising. Anyone who does not want to receive this kind of marketing can sign up -- ideally at no cost online. Businesses would be required to obtain the addresses of all residents who do not want to bothered with this junk mail. Any

We live in an society that is constantly bombarded with advertising images. In SF it's virtually impossible to get from one place to another without being pitched the latest iPod, Windows version or the next blockbuster movie. Why? Because advertising works. People see things, remember them, and act accordingly by making a purchase, telling a friend or altering their own behavior.
In order for advertisers to reach their audience they need a medium in which they can communicate their message; the most popular being television, radio, print, web, and open-air (posters, billboards etc.). The organizations that provide access to their audience

The SFPD giving permission to certain businesses to install and maintain promotional mini-billboards on public property all of which violate local, state and federal codes. The problem with this is that neither the police nor business owners are above the law Right? We all support our police, however we do not support anyone circumventing the law. The job of public officials is to protect and enhance the public right-a-way for all residents, visitors and workers by regulating its use through the rule of law. Surely it is not representing particular special interests or giving away our community property rights Right?
