Since the police don’t care, maybe you’ll show some interest
November 6th, 2007 2:28 pm

My wife's car was broken into in the parking lot at the Pottery Barn at Market and Castro three hours ago.  She's still waiting for the police to come and take a report.   I know the police are busy putting up "Yes on F" signs, but we live in the city and pay our taxes.  Somebody needs to step up and take responsibility for the criminals which this city fosters in it's low income housing.   Mike Read This Posty »

Oakland is Safer
October 8th, 2007 10:24 am

As a native San Franciscan (multi generation) and very proud that I am, we moved out of what should be considered a safe and desirable SF neighborhood (Cal and Van Ness) to Oakland when our baby was born last year.  There were many reasons why I felt forced out of my city, but let met touch on just a few. 1)    Walking outside our apartment in the early evening to see someone hunched over the next morning we found two needles 2)    Having someone defecate in our driveway ramp (multiple times) 3)    Prostitutes walking their beat down our street 4)    Repeated vehicle vandalism (every Read This Posty »

The break-ins by my neighborhood (Franklin at Washington)
October 5th, 2007 8:55 am

My car has been broken into twice in the past six months and I have seen an increase in the amount of broken  glass from other break-ins in the past month +. I imagine this is a tough problem to solve, but it sours me on the idea of living in this city, not knowing if I am going to wake up to a car with a broken window each morning. Get a Job!
September 21st, 2007 9:38 am

Sorry, but the primary way that people can get health care is to get a job.  Or pay for it out of pocket.  Many of the uninsured prioritize car payments, cigarettes and direct TV over health insurance.  For most it's a matter of choice.   Unless there is a provision for healthy living and benefit for taking care of yourself, this is something that is just not worth the tax dollars I already spend.   This is the city and county of San Francisco, don't make into the DDR of the west coast.   Fix the schools, streets and get homeless people and junkies to stop Read This Posty »

The DA

Drunks are poor because they’re drunks
July 26th, 2007 8:23 am

In April a comment on a post here contained this sentence: Cops should be giving 100% of their attention to violent crime, not making things look shiny and hiding the realities of poverty. Why do so many people complain about this? I fail to see the logic, and no, I'm not high at the moment." Leaving aside the unfounded assumption that drunks in the street are really just unfairly targeted poor people rather than drunks who are poor because they're drunks, there is the wonderfully helpful concept of "The Tipping Point". Five years ago, there were no "homeless" in my neighborhood. Then Read This Posty »

Does no one work for the SFPD anymore?
June 18th, 2007 8:05 am

How come that every time I make a call to the SFPD, I am told the reason that I am calling is not a priority (someone breaking into a vehicle, homeless persons assaulting passer-bys, red light runners, etc).  Does no one work for the SFPD anymore? Name Withheld Read This Posty »

Trim the Trees
June 13th, 2007 8:32 am

Trees in the city need to be trimmed in order for the street lights to illuminate dark sidewalks.  Safety and car break-ins are a constant problem in the Western Addition.  Night inspections of dark areas would help illuminate the problem. Name Withheld Read This Posty »

Crime is rampant throughout the city and nothing is done about it
May 23rd, 2007 1:28 pm

Cars are broken into, drugs are sold openly on the street, there are numerous prostitutes soliciting, graffiti is rampant.  You can call the SFPD, but they won't do anything about it and usually won't even come out!  And even if they catch someone, the DA won't prosecute. Car Break-Ins on Pine
May 21st, 2007 9:35 am

I despise the unbelievable car vandalism that happens every night in lower pacific heights.  Car windows are smashed by the handful especially on Pine.  Can anything be done to stop this?  Install a camera? Name Withheld Read This Posty »

Marina Car Break-ins
May 21st, 2007 9:25 am

I'm getting really concerned about the increase in graffiti and car break-ins in the city.  I've especially noticed a huge increase in car break-ins within the Marina district.  I've seen countless piles of broken glass from car windows getting smashed in on my street, and the surrounding blocks.  My friend even had his registration stolen from his car during broad daylight.  I don't feel safe anymore.  Please help save the Marina from crime. Hotel Guests Scared to Go Outside
May 10th, 2007 8:05 am

I work at  the Renoir Hotel on 45 McCallister St.  Many of our guests are scared to go outside, I'm thinking about quitting because it;s so bad out there. We need a Starbuck's or a police substation on 7th and Market.  We need a loitering law.  I watch the people walk around the block a hundred times in a day.  I watch bums drink in a covered bus stop for hours at a time.  Numerous times I've seen our guests have their car windows broken in our white zone and then realized later that I saw the thieves selling them Read This Posty »

Graffiti, break-ins, traffic and the homeless
May 8th, 2007 1:53 pm

I love this city!  It's been wonderful to me and i want to see it improve.  It hurts to see such a beautiful city (1) plagued with graffiti, I don't know what the intrigue is, but it's everywhere.  Maybe I'd understand if I could actually read what it is, but for the most part, it's some jerk's street name or the posse he runs with or whatever and it's less than artistic to say the least.  (2) My car was been broken into twice within a month in the Lower Haight district.  I didn't even bother reporting the second incident Read This Posty »

Trash on Fulton Street…
April 6th, 2007 12:44 pm

I would love to see the south side of  Fulton Street, between 6th and 12th Avenues, cleaned up.  This northern border of the Park is an eyesore--a thicket filled with trash and very poorly lit at night.  Anyone in the neighborhood will tell you it's the last place you want to park your car--there are constant break-ins and there is always broken glass all along the street.  Also, the 8th Avenue entrance to our beautiful park, one of the main entrances to the DeYoung, is another trash-filled thicket.  Can't these small areas be cleaned up and landscaped?  The bus shelter Read This Posty »

Incredible car burglary problem
April 5th, 2007 8:34 pm

My Pet Peeve is that San Francisco has an incredible car burglary problem. I don't know what the solution is (I am certain it is not easy), however, I think addressing this problem is more important than SF-wide wireless internet access. I strongly believe that safety and security should come before a luxury such as city-wide internet access. One particular alley (Shipley Street between 4th & 5th) is notorious for car break-ins. Our friends who live there have had their car window smashed 3 times (without having any valuables visible in the car), and it seems that every time we come Read This Posty »

3 car break-ins in “safe” neighborhoods

It bothers me that my car has been broken into three times when parked on a residential street in a supposedly “safe” neighborhood.  On top of that, the police could care less about it.  Megan Read This Posty »

Fill in the cracks
April 3rd, 2007 1:49 pm

Dear Mayor, I have a few pet peeves lately: The intersection of Lombard and Van Ness. I walk to and from work through this intersection daily and have to carefully examine each step of the pavement so as not to break my goddamn neck each day. Can't someone hook up some concrete mix to fill in the cracks? It's looked like crap for 3 years now. On this walk I notice at least one car broken into a day. My husband's car has been broken into three times now. The cop at the police station nearly laughed once when we went to report it. Car Break-Ins
April 1st, 2007 2:32 pm

I've lived around the world, even in NYC, and never had a problem with car security; but within 2 months of moving to SF, my car was broken into on the street.  In Pac Heights no less!  I encountered general apathy from the police, and, when I talked to my friends, learned that just about everyone who lives in this city has had their car broken into.  I find it rather laughable that the parking monitors are so well organized and anal (within my first couple months here, I also received over $300 in parking tickets) because it actually generates Read T
