Hi -
I am a longtime supporter (through both volunteerism and financial contributions) of Gavin Newsom. I was an active volunteer for Care Not Cash and for his mayoral campaign. And, despite all of the recent events, I still believe that he is the right individual to lead San Francisco. But Gavin is making it very hard to continue to believe. Please please please try to convince Gavin that the Town Hall meetings are not working (and it really is the format - he should not be picking the questions himself). San Francisco has a lot going for it, but it lacks some things that would make the city run a lot more smoothly.
1. GAVIN NEWSOM THRUWAY. Living near Franklin, Gough and Van Ness makes for dangerous lives. Each day thousands of motorists try to get through the city and are forced on city streets to get there. They speed down Franklin and frequently run red lights. If there is an event going on near the Civic center, it's really dangerous for pedestrians. The continuing problem with the "hard core" homeless in our neighborhoods and parks needs to be addressed aggressively. I'm all for Care Not Cash and the Community Courts Initiative, but Mayor Newsom needs to realize that homelessness is still plaguing lots of SF neighborhoods and causing a serious decline in our quality of life. I've lived in the Haight Ashbury for 17 years, and I have so many horror stories about encounters with homeless people in my neighborhood that I could fill hundreds of web pages!
