Hiring Freeze
December 3rd, 2007 9:38 am

I am very disappointed with the hiring freeze.  I have been unemployed and have been trying to get a job as a junior engineer with the city.  I just interviewed with the MTA 2 weeks ago and was anxiously waiting for a reply from them.  Now, the position might not even be open anymore because you people screwed everything up.  Thanks a lot. Override Republicrat Diane Feinstein’s influence
October 30th, 2007 11:10 am

Why can't you, as Mayor, override Republicrat Diane Feinstein's influence, and get San Francisco to be energy independent?  I'm sure you know that her husband is a big share holder in PG & E.  Secondly, How about converting city vehicles to electric drives, either by plug in hybrids, or better yet, 100% electric? Conflict between branches of government
October 26th, 2007 8:27 am

I work at City Hall on a volunteer basis and I see the inner workings of that place up close and personal.  The Supervisors are the enemy of the Mayor's office and vice versa.  Those two political camps will do anything to embarrass each other with little concern for the consequences to the city's residents.  A case in point being our parking shortfall versus the condition of Muni.  The Board ceaselessly pushes their transit first policy in the face of our dysfunctional public transit system precisely because it highlights the managerial incompetence of the administrative arm of City government. There is Read This Posty »

Disappointed in his call for all of those letters of resignation
September 21st, 2007 7:30 am

I was all set to vote for Mayor Newsom in the upcoming election, but am now having doubts. I was very disappointed in his call for all of those letters of resignation -- I think what he was attempting to accomplish could have been handled a lot more diplomatically. Frankly, it sounded like a game an arch-conservative would play -- it had the feel of a power trip (very ego-driven). Does the Mayor think that he has been more successful at accomplishing his goals than ALL of the people he asked for letters of resignation? That is what it sounded Read This Posty »

Job tickets fall into a black hole
September 21st, 2007 7:23 am

Dear Mr. Mayor: 311 is great, they take my reports. Too bad the job tickets they write fall into a black hole of unresponsive, do nothing city departments who fail miserably to actually get the work completed. I'm am specifically speaking of either the City Sign Shop or the DPT. There are two eye level Street Cleaning signs on either side of Alabama Street near 20th Street that vandals have ripped out of the frame and stolen. I've called this into 311 at least 4 times over 4 months and the signs have yet to be replaced. I called you office, spoke Read This Posty »

Why is it so hard to get a city government job
September 7th, 2007 7:30 am

I have been trying to apply for 2 years but never hear a response yet I just applied to Marin County for a job (social services) and I have already been interviewed there and got my test score back? Why so hard to get a response regarding jobs from city. I'm beginning to think that they just send all job apps to the big shredder in the sky and give the hobs to their friends. Not really mayor's fault but just a pet peeve of mine! Name Withheld Read This Posty »

City drivers using their cell phones
July 27th, 2007 7:52 am

More and more you can see city employees -- MUNI drivers, meter maids, and even police -- on their cell phones while on duty. MUNI has enough problems without having distracted drivers or drivers who seem to be more interested in their private conversations than in customer service or even, God forbid, driving safety. MUNI and the police should be setting examples of responsible, aware driving behavior. Undoubtedly some of their conversations probably are work related. But telling by the expressions on their faces while driving and cell phoning as well as the general enthusiasm they are showing on those Read This Posty »

Hostile Parking Enforcer
June 28th, 2007 8:31 am

I just received a ticket for an expired meter. I plan on paying the violation. My concern is the woman who gave me the ticket. As I approached the car, the woman was talking and looked at me. Not hearing her clearly, I said "excuse me?". What I did not notice was that she had a bluetooth, and was carrying on a personal conversation with someone on the phone. She turned to me and said "I'm not talking to you, mind your own business." I said that I was sorry, I thought she was talking to me. She then put Read This Posty »

Erosion and Corruption of Civil Service
June 20th, 2007 7:22 am

I wrote you a pet peeve which you stated that you would publish; you did not, breaking your word which is morally unacceptable. In my e-mail correspondence, I expressed my concern about the erosion and corruption of Civil Service. I noted that the present examination procedure treats applicants unfairly, citing my case. I applied numerous times for the positions of Medical and Psychiatric Social Worker. While I was interviewed a number of times, I was rejected on grounds of lack of experience for these entry classifications. An individual applying for an entry classification should not be disqualified or passed over, due Read This Posty »

Stop using parking tickets as a way to fund your stupid projects
May 21st, 2007 9:13 am

If you have a project that has merit raise the taxes for it or reallocate taxes.  Gouging residents with tickets and then putting two incompetent workers at the ticket office to deal with complaints is embarrassing. I thought the Mayor believed in modern management techniques. I will still vote for him but god he's a long way from the promise of election night.  Do something for the people who elected you.  Name Withheld Read This Posty »

GG Disposal/City of SF employees that drop garbage on our streets
May 10th, 2007 8:01 am

It's unacceptable. The supervisors are not doing their job watching over their employees. I have seen with my own eyes employees pull out an overflowing can, letting the "overflow" do just that. UNACCEPTABLE. To those who are in charge of supervising these underachieving employees, please do YOUR job, supervise them. Our city is so dirty, but it really does not have to be. There's plenty of people out there willing to do a better job at the same wage. Hire someone who will help keep the city free of senseless debris. Jeffrey Read This Posty »

I would rather walk 2 miles than take a SF bus
April 16th, 2007 8:51 pm

Gavin, Please have you and your staff use the SF mass transit system on a daily basis.  No taxis, no cars.  After just a couple of days I'm sure you will have quite an action list developed. -Aaron, who would rather walk 2 miles than take a SF bus. Read This Posty »

The J-Church is an absolute nightmare
April 11th, 2007 8:57 pm

The "improvement" project is pathetic at best. My commute has only become more unbearable since this program began.  Trains are far and few between, with the typical half hour span between trains while three trains will follow one another in the opposite direction.  It seems that not a single thing has been done that could potentially improve performance, even though solutions are not hard to find.  I feel like there should be some serious firing taking place at MUNI, because it's very obvious that the management is not doing its job. Hateful MUNI Workers
April 5th, 2007 4:46 pm

I've been told by many people that individuals that work for the city of San Francisco get paid pretty well. Usually, they are paid above average, which makes city jobs so in demand. Why is it, that whenever I encounter a person that works for the city, I am greeted with rude attitude, unpleasant behavior, and just an overall surly demeanour? I couldn't count the number of times I've been snubbed, given dirty looks, or foul language from MUNI drivers. There's been a few times that MUNI drivers have not even stopped. Once because she ended up running a "yellow light" Read This Posty »

City hiring process
April 5th, 2007 4:06 pm

My pet peeve, at the moment and for the past 3 days, is that I sent you guys another pet peeve which implied that the hiring process in the city is rotten and you didn't print it.  I see the same issues over and over again on your site; dog leash/poop, pot holes, parking, muni.  Those problems are visible and tangible.  I'm trying to bring to light one of the problems you can't see coming a mile away.  Just about any city employee, and I know quite a few, will tell you that every agency, from the DPT to the Recreation and Parks Read This Posty »
