Mayor Should Ride MUNI for a Month
July 25th, 2007 8:10 am

My "pet peeve" is having an ineffectual mayor who does nothing but hold press conferences when the murder rate is sky high, and allows MUNI to deteriorate while studying the effectiveness of a bus line that is already one of the best-performing in the city. God forbid the precious mayor ever give up his chauffeured luxury car, but maybe if he rode MUNI exclusively for a month he'd be a little more understanding of what those of us who can't afford a car go through. Why does Heather Fong still have a job?
July 24th, 2007 11:06 pm

My latest pet peeve is that mayor Newsom and the San Francisco Police Department have ignored the pleas from me and many other law-abiding San Franciscans to do SOMETHING about the crime and violence in our neighborhoods. Routinely when I call the police non-emergency line about homeless camping, people fighting, or people shooting up in doorways next to my apartment, NOTHING is done.  Sometimes I'm lied to that something will be done or was done the last time I called.  In all cases, I am ignored.  I've posted repeatedly on this very pet peeve blog my experiences dealing with the police Read This Posty »

Can MUNI police actually get real work to do like watching for our safety?
July 24th, 2007 7:12 am

In my continuing frustration walking to and from the Powell Street MUNI/Bart Station to my place of work near Union Square, a friend let me know about this website.  Frankly, I am doubtful this will help, but will give it a try.  For me, and thousands of others who have to use this station to get to work, this becomes representative of what San Francisco is like to LIVE in.  Unfortunately, I do not have the good fortune of working around the Montgomery Station or Embarcadero.  Every day without fail, I am treated to what is like a human toilet Read This Posty »

Mission war zone
July 23rd, 2007 8:04 am

Rising crime, graffiti and streets only a 3rd world country could be proud of.   What is the plan, Gavin, for our streets?  Seems there are lots of initiatives for relatively small and needy (and deserving) sections of our city's populace...what about the bigger problems. Crime in Western Addition
July 20th, 2007 9:46 am

Mayor Newsom: We've heard from friends of a few recent cases of armed robbery in and near our neighborhood, which was surprising. While we only have a couple of datapoints, we wondered if this is happening more than previously. I happened to be talking today to a policewoman who covers a different beat, but she mentioned a number of patrol cars previously stationed in our area have been dedicated to the Western Addition at the instruction of our neighborhood supervisor. She suggested that there was an increase in crime in our area and she indicated this patrol Read This Posty »

Cop Cars in Dolores Park
July 12th, 2007 10:02 pm

Last Friday, in the Dolores Park area (one of the most gentrified in the city), I saw one police car per block - that is, police cars everywhere. I wish I'd see a similar deployment in the Bayview. There was a shooting right in front of my house a couple of weeks ago, and I don't see more police cars after that. Name Withheld Read This Posty »

Try to walk from, say Zuni to to 4th St. after 6 pm
June 29th, 2007 7:19 am

This is more than just a pet peeve. The city has become so crime-ridden the streets -- even in previously safe neighborhoods like Noe Valley and the Castro -- are seriously unsafe. The buses and subways are overrun with criminal elements, and I invite you to try to walk from, say Zuni to to 4th Street after 6 pm -- wait, don't, unless you have an armed guard. I've lived here for 27 years and the quality of life has spiralled downhill in the last few years, especially since Willie Brown was in office. Do something! Name Withheld Read This Posty »

Crack, Crack, Crack and More Crack!!!
June 28th, 2007 8:37 am

WHY has this city apparently become the west coast crack capital? Crack dealers and users alike flock to this city in droves...because it is seemingly Disneyland for them. Cops could care less, and politicians could care even less than cops. Does our DA even bother to prosecute these crimes anymore? Or am I living in a "twilight zone", waiting to pinch myself and wake up already? When did selling and dealing drugs out in the open become as distinctively San Francisco as the cable cars? I see DOZENS of postings on the exact same issue, but seriously wonder if anyone Read This Posty »

Two words - VIOLENT CRIME
June 28th, 2007 8:20 am

What are you doing about it, Herr Newsom? Miss Fong, you make what, $300K a year? As we fall victim to violent crime on the streets? Do you ever look at the talk threads on Yelp, where people report what fails to make the local news? Miss Harris, do you have anything against prosecuting criminals? I've heard rumor that police are sometimes reluctant to arrest because they know they won't be able to get a conviction. This is a PROBLEM. Gavin, if you want my vote, start talkin' about it. Now. It's really more important than plastic bags, you know? Mark Read This Posty »

Muggings with Police Watching
June 27th, 2007 8:52 am

My biggest pet peeve is that when my friend and I visited SF from SJ she got mugged in front of 6 police officers, and they refused to help. They were too busy standing in front of their police cars directing traffic down the only open street, or talking to each other with their backs to the people exiting the bar. I haven't been to SF since. Name Withheld Read This Posty »

Please don’t give up on us as other mayors have done in the past
June 25th, 2007 7:56 am

My pet peeve is the drug dealing in the Bayview community, the drug addicts and their stealing and robbing people and the T train.  We are coming to realize the T train is not the benefit we were told it was going to be. Parking is terrible, the traffic lights don't hold long enough on the cross streets (there is not enough time to walk across or drive across 3rd before the light turns red on you) and the distances between left turns off of 3rd street are few and far between. I would like to see more police cars Read This Posty »

The CRIME problem!
June 20th, 2007 7:34 am

People are dying out there, man! HOMICIDES! Yeah making SF a green city, great, but is that really that important when people are being KILLED? There are SERIOUS DRUG and GANG problems. Hopefully you are aware of this? I know there are police shortages but you have REALLY GOT TO DO SOMETHING ABOUT THIS Mark Gorney Read This Posty »

Give us a break, and do something about the increasing crime in the city!
June 20th, 2007 7:13 am

The following quote is from an SFGate article on 6/5/07:  "The Tenderloin and Market Street area is a new hotbed of drug dealing,'' said Lt. John Murphy of the homicide detail. He said he has spoken to investigators in police gang and narcotics units about the spike in violence brought on by dealers and customers from outside the city. WHAT A JOKE!  We who live in the Tenderloin have been complaining to the Mayor, City Council and Police for more than two years about the growing drug dealing problem.  What have any of them done????  NOTHING!  I guess they think it Read This Posty »

6th & Market St.
June 15th, 2007 7:53 am

Dear Gavin - My name is Steve, and I work near the corner of Market and 6th Streets for a publishing company.  Currently, we are at the mid-way point of our ten year lease of this sixth story office building.  Other tenants include SMWM (Architects), with Radio Shack and House of Blue Jeans on ground level.   Yesterday, I arranged to have Captain Denis O'Leary (SFPD/Southern Station) come speak at a town hall meeting, here at the office, to discuss the many concerns we have regarding this neighborhood.  As you know, this particular section of the Central Market Street district, Read This Posty »

First to the Board of Supervisors: Are you reading this blog?
June 15th, 2007 7:40 am

Do you see what you have let this once beautiful city become? Do you see the fury that people are beginning to feel about what you have let happen? Some of you have been on the board for almost as long as homelessness has been a problem. And what I remember is that all you could come up with was to fight any real attempt to fix this problem. Consider Daly right now trying to take money away from the community court idea, not because he actually believes in anything or has any plan of his own, but just to put Read This Posty »

911 Operator Not Concerned About My Safety
June 15th, 2007 7:30 am

I called 911 the other day after being attacked by a man in the Tenderloin. While on the phone, the attacker returned. I communicated this to the person on the phone, but instead of telling me to get to safety - which I needed to hear because I was disoriented by the attack - I was told to just continue to answer his questions. The attacker then ripped the phone out of my hands, tore it into pieces, handed it back to me, and punched me in the eye. I wish the person answering my 911 call had been more Read This Posty »

Stolen Cars in the Marina
June 15th, 2007 7:29 am

Gavin, you were behind me in line at Walgreen's on Chestnut last year when I told you about my car being stolen out of my driveway. The rest of the story is, I got a delinquent parking ticket, and drove to Sea Cliff where the ticket was issued 6 weeks before. It was parked on the street near the ticket location. I called the police and had it impounded. They obviously did not open the car, because at the tow company the next day, I found in the car: 2 file boxes full of car registrations-at least 200 separate cars Read This Posty »
