I FIND THAT CRITICAL MASS IS OUT OF CONTROL AND THE CITY AND LAW ENFORCEMENT LACK CONTROL OF THIS WHOLE SITUATION. CRITICAL MASS IS NOT A PEACEFUL PROTEST. ALL THEY DO IS CAUSE TRAFFIC AND TROUBLE. THEY DON'T OBEY TRAFFIC LAWS AT ALL. I FEEL IT IS THE GOVERNMENT AND LAW ENFORCEMENTS DUTY TO MAKE SURE THEY PROTEST IN A MANNER THAT DOES NOT OFFEND OTHERS. SOMEONE IS NOT DOING THEIR JOB. I CHALLENGE YOU TO TAKE ON THE DUTY OF GETTING THEM UNDER CONTROL.

Lack of traffic enforcement of traffic laws for bicycle riders who are on our sidewalks and seemingly think no traffic laws apply to them. Lack of police control of critical mass results in anarchy on the streets.

As a native San Franciscan (multi generation) and very proud that I am, we moved out of what should be considered a safe and desirable SF neighborhood (Cal and Van Ness) to Oakland when our baby was born last year. There were many reasons why I felt forced out of my city, but let met touch on just a few.
1) Walking outside our apartment in the early evening to see someone hunched over the next morning we found two needles
2) Having someone defecate in our driveway ramp (multiple times)
3) Prostitutes walking their beat down our street
4) Repeated vehicle vandalism (every Read This Posty »

When will the mayor do something about the law-breaking bikers who ride their bikes on the sidewalk? Why is that tolerated here? I have NEVER seen a bicyclist riding past me that has ever announced that he is there, like I have seen in other cities, by saying "On your left/right." Usually, the biker speeds past me as I feel their clothes whipping me--barely avoiding a near-accident if I had taken one small step to the left. If that person was walking behind me, would they just shove me out of the way?
I've also been almost mowed down several Read This Posty »

You have to stop critical mass. They are out and out law-breakers. Stop it!

I just want to applaud Newsom, Dufty, and Fong for the wonderful leadership being shown with the handling of the Castro Halloween party.
I mean seriously, what's better than the people who are supposed to lead and be in control saying "we can't handle our responsibilities, so we're just not going to this year".
Wonderful.
I mean, yes, it's true that the Police department can't handle their responsibilities any other day of the year, and yet Heather Fong still has a job for some reason. The SFPD can't even recruit officers despite the ridiculously high pay. The officers they do Read This Posty »

What if everyone one in the morning commute decided they didn't want to pay toll and just drove through the toll gates without paying? What if everyone decided they didn't want to pay to get into AT&T park and thousands of people hopped the rails to get in? I'm sure the mayor would be outraged. Yet, Mayor Newsome continues to draw no outrage to Critical Mass which is nearing its 15 year anniversary.
I have no issues with bike riders wanting to protest for their cause. I do take issue with their disregard for the law. If a mass of people Read This Posty »

Gavin, I believe that the time has come (actually the time came long ago) to end the last Friday ritual known as 'Critical Mass'. This effort by bicyclists to gain attention in San Francisco has been going on since I moved to the City 13 years ago, and is even less relevant now than it was at that time. The effect that it has on the City, due to wasted gasoline, increased pollution, and frayed tempers is not worth the potential political fallout that ending this event might have. There is no constructive benefit to having the event-none of the Read This Posty »

Mayor:
I am not an advocate for what you call marriage equality (gay marriage). I am not an advocate of the Bay to Breakers Race on Sunday mornings blocking traffic. Please consider having it on Saturdays instead. I am not an advocate for the uncontrollable Halloween Party in the Castro District. I am not an advocate of the Critical Mass (bicyclist) blocking traffic the last Friday of each month.
I do however appreciate what you are attempting to do with your other projects of establishing WiFi in the city, Universal Health Care, Getting Muni on time, Services to the Bayview and Hunter's Read This Posty »

1. Street potholes need to be repaired properly! Fulton Street by beach, entrance to park at 42nd Avenue thru to Lincoln Blvd.
2. How come the streets are so full of trash and garbage?
3. Critical Mass Bike riders should all be registered with the city! Each bike should have ID number hanging from the bikes crossbar. So, if any trouble, the person can be ID thru the bike's ID number. I think this would solve a lot of problems with the bike riders who always cause the problems with the drivers. And how come they never have to obey the rules Read This Posty »

My letter to Supervisor Dufty (as yet unacknowledged)
February 19, 2007
Mr. Dufty:
After 8 years in this once beautiful city, my partner and I are beginning the search for a home in Marin and leaving the once beloved Castro. Please tell Chris Daly, Aaron Peskin, Jake McGoldrick and the rest of the fractionalized self-centered Board of Supervisors that they win and SF is theirs.
From the big annoyances like Critical Mass and NO ONES ability or balls to stand up to the arrogant bicycle coalition to the growing homeless camp on 16th Street, across from our once beautiful little street (Pond), to Read This Posty »

Critical Mass' ability to create sheer havoc on SF's city streets with police protection and escorts that permit them to vandalize, conduct lawless traffic jams, terrorize pedestrians and drivers all under the guise of trying to get us all to ride bicycles. Do you really think this is practical and why aren't we enforcing the limits the law when it comes to these self righteous thugs?

We've got to have some rules. They are getting more and more unruly each month, not to mention more dangerous. As someone who just moved here, I had no idea what was going on when hundreds of people on bikes took over the streets. I'm all for the environment and riding a bike, but they need to follow the rules of the road for everyone's safety and the city needs to be more proactive in setting some expectations of riders. Doing nothing is condoning their behavior!!

I just saw a segment on KRON 4 that the Critical Mass spokesperson refused to release raw footage of an incident between a motorist and cyclists. It looked really fishy for the critical mess people. Did anyone else see this?

I have gone from supporting initiatives designed to favor bicyclists to voting against them whenever I can. It all stems from the apparent attitude of 'Since I ride a bike, I can do whatever I want'. I walk to work everyday from Church and Market to Post and Grant. I have days where I do not see one bicyclist conforming to any set of known laws, rules, or guidelines. I understand completely the frustration bicyclists feel with motorists, but as a pedestrian I feel more 'peril' from a person on a bike than I ever do from a person in Read This Posty »

Dear Mayor Newsom,
After reading about the two incidents that took place this past week during the Critical Mass bikes rides, I am absolutely outraged. It is the city of San Francisco's responsibility to keep its residents safe and the city is just sitting on the sidelines.
The poor family had their car destroyed and their children were terrorized and frightened. No one was brought to justice. Someone could have been seriously hurt.
A quote from one of the officers at the scene: "We sit there and they just go right through the red lights,'' Sgt. Callejas said. "What else can we do? Read This Posty »

Guess Mayor Newsom is going to wait until somebody gets hurt or killed before he does something about critical mass. Very disappointed in your performance as mayor.

My friend and I was blocked by 50 or more cyclists when we drove down Castro Street a year ago, they keeped our bumper and screaming. I think some of these ppl, need to take some responsibilities. I am afraid this kind of so called protest will hurt our city's imagine.

This is a group of scofflaws with tremendous arrogance and hostility. They deliberately ignore numerous public safety laws and act provocatively. Would the city tolerate this kind of behavior from a right-wing mob? No, not even for 24 hours. Messrs. Gonzalez, Mirkarimi, Daley et al wouldn't tolerate it -- they'd be on the 11 o'clock news blasting the fascist mob action. But when this is done by a politically-correct group of anarchist bicyclists, it is not only tolerated, but tacitly encouraged -- for years!

Self rightous bike punks (from Marin, for the most part) attacking families. Why do we continue to allow these Critical Massers to attack and intimidate people? This happens almost every month.
