I live on the 400 block of Funston Ave. and my street is a toilet…literally
November 2nd, 2007 9:09 am

Men urinate on a daily (and nightly) basis in the trees across the street from my building. Taxi drivers, trunk drivers, motorcyclists, businessmen in suits -- they all think that our street is a toilet. I take my dog out there and am afraid to walk among the trees in case I run into a man with his pants down or step in something he left. Help! Name Withheld Read This Posty »

Please put the trash cans back!
October 3rd, 2007 9:18 am

I understand why the city took away many trash cans around certain neighborhoods. However, when you took away all of the cans on Onondoga in front of Balboa High School, you took away opportunities for the already messy high school and middle school students to throw their many empty potato chip bags and soda cans. Additionally, those cans were used by neighbors walking their dogs (and me too) to throw away dog waste. Now some people don't even bother to pick up after their dog. Please put the trash cans back! Enclosed Dog Parks
August 1st, 2007 1:11 am

I wish there was a dog park that was enclosed so that I could let my dog run free and play with other dogs. All of the dog parks are wide open and I fear that he will get hit by a car or jump on a small child. Name Withheld Read This Posty »

Homeless Drug Users
July 24th, 2007 1:13 am

Dear C.W., Your article this morning featuring the homeless camps in our beautiful Golden Gate Park was right on the mark.  The Mayor's last sweep did make a difference to those of us who live near the park (Haight Ashbury).  The scores of homeless who mine Haight street for money by day, retreat to these camps by night to use drugs and alcohol and warm by fires.  The sweep helped end this cycle for a few months.  Sadly they re-establish camps quickly.  The Mayor has not done another sweep since.  It needs to be Read This Posty »

Dog Licensing Not Enforced
June 27th, 2007 8:53 am

Following up on yesterday's Chronicle article, I am a 15-year San Francisco pet owner and just got my dog licensed for the first time.   It seems the City is missing out on a large revenue stream by not enforcing dog licensing.  I assume this is because the cost of enforcement outweighs the revenue licensing would produce, but there must be a way the City could encourage pet owners to license their animals.  Perhaps by changing ordinances that prohibit dogs from entering certain establishments?  Don't know the intricacies involved, but since this is, indeed PET peeves, thought I'd raise the issue. Black and White Leash Laws
June 11th, 2007 9:10 am

The issue about on and off leash areas for dogs shuoldn't be black and white as it is at most locations. Why can't we settle this issue once and for all by having times when dogs can be off leash - and times when they cannot. Parents of children, and Dog owners (and those who have both!) can adapt by visiting their local parks and rec areas during the appropriate times - or have their dog on a leash. I have two dogs, but I respect the rights of all parties concerned. I think it is crazy to keep making Read This Posty »

Dirty sidewalks in SF
June 7th, 2007 3:05 pm

Dirty sidewalks in SF - they're filthy. When walking around the city, one must watch where they step in order to avoid stepped in dog sh*t.. Take a queue from Chicago and how they cleaned up their city through the use of sidewalk sweepers. Downtown Chicago is now one of the cleaner metropolitan cities simply as a result of keep the sidewalks clean. The city could also be more proactive about ticketing dog owners who do not clean up after their pets. Name Withheld Read This Posty »

Dog droppings on Union St. and Cow Hollow
June 5th, 2007 7:34 am

People do not pick up after their dogs.  I see dropping all around the neighborhood. People who party sometimes can't hold down their liquor so sometimes I see vomit on the street (once right on my front steps).  And tipped over garbage containers and news stands, flowers pulled out of their containers. Mandatory Pet Renting
May 10th, 2007 8:00 am

I am angry that the supervisors would consider mandatory renting to tenants with pets.  There are people who cannot live near a dog or cat because of conditions such as asthma.  I have a granddaughter who has asthma and cannot visit her friends' homes if they have a pet.  It is a very serious situation. Something more radical has to be done about pit bulls and bit pull mixes

Poo on the Sidewalks
May 3rd, 2007 7:30 am

The dog (maybe even human) feces all over the sidewalks, especially in the Nob Hill area. It's disgusting to see how many people let their pets defecate in the MIDDLE of the sidewalk; it's like an obstacle course just walking to the corner. We need to enforce people picking up after their dogs, or even better, create grassy areas on the edges of sidewalks so they can do their business. I see them all over neighborhoods in Los Angeles, and even in Berkeley, and they help make streets look nicer as well. Victor G. Read This Posty »

Union Square community court only? The whole city is filthy
May 1st, 2007 2:49 pm

Why is this to only clean up Union Square?  It sounds to me like something to impress the "fat cats" that roll through town and only shop/stay at hotels in  that part of San Francisco.  The whole darn city is gosh darn filthy!   Try walking down Townsend Street, then Division Street, and through the Mission  District.  There is trash strewn everywhere, used hypodermic needles are all over, and ( though this would not be considered "trash" ) I have seen people walking Pit Bull Terriers without leashes.  Let me repeat, I have seen people with Pit Bulls that are not Read This Posty »

Dogs and Cars

Regulate Dog Walkers
April 23rd, 2007 11:24 am

This really is a pet peeve.  For-profit "dog walkers" should be regulated by the City and the City should be patrolling dog runs and other areas for-profit "dog walkers" use to ensure such businesses are legitimate, and that the ration of dogs to human is one in which the dogs can actually be under the control of the profiteer (no greater than 4 dogs under the control of one human seems reasonable). Dog walking businesses use the City's parks, open spaces and dog runs as part of their businesses.  Frequently, throughout most days the Walter Haas Park dog run is Read This Posty »

Forget the Homeless, Get Rid of the Dogs
April 20th, 2007 7:57 am

Every day, dog owners feel entitled to toilet their 120,000+ unlicensed dogs on every public and private spot they pass. There's nothing as revolting as seeing some dog shoot a stream of toxic green urine on someone's begonias or in a green grassy spot where you want to recreate. Then there's the noise: one barking dog is worse than 10 car alarms, and can be heard for blocks. And finally, the dog attacks, which are rampant in our parks, where doggers run their animals illegally and irresponsibly. Of course, the doggers are all volunteering in city officers, so wonder the Read This Posty »

Dangerous and Barking Dogs
April 8th, 2007 7:20 pm

As long as we’re discussing “pet” peeves, someone should address dangerous and barking dogs. Some of the well-intentioned people who adopt abandoned dogs seem to care more about the dogs than their neighbors or even their own children.  Remember the fatal attack on Diane Whipple, killed by a neighbor’s dog.  Consider the death of Nicholas Faibish, age 12: confined to the basement while the family’s two dogs were given the run of the home, he exited the basement and the dogs killed him.  Dogs that bark at everyone in sight may be a warning of worse to come, and meanwhile they Read This Posty »

Pet Peeves from a New Yorker
April 5th, 2007 4:13 pm

The many plastic bags supported by supposely fine pedigree pet owners in San Fransisco. I'm a native New Yorker, I would only raise a medium to  large size dog by birth on my exclusive, well guarded, hard won  2 acres, otherwise, if  I got stuck with a loveable pooch and he/she was stuck with me full time in an urban or semi urban environment I would have stricter hygiene standards and start collecting frequent flyer miles. A) no one knows what a NY style Deluxe pooper scooper is in San Francisco. B) No one knows what Purell is C) Organic poop of pets Read This Posty »

Street People, Roads and Special Interests
April 3rd, 2007 1:42 pm

STREET PEOPLE chase away tourist -- a very 'green" industry and the heart of SF funding. We cannot let them own every street corner, Van Ness corridor, Market Street, Golden Gate Park. Only Union Square has done something and that's because they spent their own money. You need to take away what the homeless have stolen -- shopping carts and wheel chairs, you need to make them move on, you need an unarmed "Homeless Squad" that works night and day to get them to clean up. Every encampment must be disbanded and then constantly monitored to keep the homeless away. Read This Posty »
