I'm SO sick of drivers on CELL PHONES!! How many accidents does it take for the government to take action? If the state won't mandate it, make it a city ordinance. EVERY time I am driving in SF, someone swerves over into my lane because they are on the phone. It's really time to do something about this serious issue.

I sent in a pet peeve awhile back, and realized afterward that I referred to the wrong streets.. *blush* I'm really disturbed by the amount of jaywalking and reckless driving on my way home from work, especially around the area of the United Nations Plaza, McAllister/Hyde/8th Street etc. In my earlier message, I proposed building a pedestrian overpass. I'm not sure if that's the best solution, but I wish something could be done about the hair-raising activity there. Between the crazy drivers and the pedestrians that seem to think of the crosswalk and traffic lights as a sort of suggestion, Read This Posty »

Too many drivers think they don't have to stop at crosswalks. If it's a crosswalk with no light or stop sign, maybe 1 in 10 drivers stops for a pedestrian. Maybe one of those mid-road pedestrian signs should be put at every crosswalk that's not at a light or stop sign.

One of my pet peeves....what would be called "Kamakasi Drivers". These are drivers of vehicles that will speed up behind another driver's vehicle and than either speed around that vehicle and than cut them off or just tailgate. This is done when other lanes are open. I can only imagine that this may have occurred today on the Dumbarton Bridge today, causing the another accident. This one ending with a fatality.

The police need to be more proactive and vigilant about going after drivers who deliberately and reckless endanger pedestrians. I'm so tired of nearly get run over by a vehicle even though I have the right of way as the pedestrian. Just now, I was crossing at 5th and Townsend and the driver went ahead w/ her left turn, forcing me to stop in the middle of the street to avoid getting hit. When I called her on it, her response was "It's no big deal." Unless drivers are penalized, they are never going to respect the rights of pedestrians.

The drivers who blast their beefed-up stereos while they drive or park in the City, causing a lot of noise pollution.

I hope a much costly citation issue/or punishment perhaps suspense their driverís license enforce on those drivers who don't stop for pedestrian when they are crossing the crosswalk and it is a green light for the pedestrian. I see countless and experienced a great number myself when crossing on a green light. There are impatience drivers out there speeding to make their turn when itís RED for them. There are times when some drivers even honk at the pedestrians to walk faster! Or swerve around the pedestrians to make their turn. Even at a stop sign, there are some drivers Read This Posty »

1. horrendously loud motorcycles day and night. so loud they set of car alarms. the motorcycles wake me up and the car alarms keep me up.
2. cars with stereos playing so loud you can feel the vibrations as they pass the house (i live on the embarcadero)
3. mortorcyclists who go screaming down the embarcadero popping wheelies
4. drivers who don't stop for pedestrians in the crosswalk
5. pedestrians who cross against red walk lights
6. PARENTS pushing a stroller or carrying a toddler crossing the embarcadero (or any busy street) against a red light.
7. drivers who make illegal left turns (like church onto Read This Posty »

I drive every day and see red light runners, bad driving and braving getting around double parkers without incurring a head-on. And, 98% of all close calls are people on cell phones who don't stop for stop signs and can't even stay in their own lanes. Too many of these are also SUV's putting my compact car at greater risk.
The meter maids are out in full force - how about taking care of real violations that can cause real damage or death? This would also be great revenue for the City to boot!

It's appalling the number of drivers that endanger the pedestrians and other drivers of our city by making illegal U-turns in intersections. Especially dangerous are drivers that cannot turn west from 19th Avenue and instead, turn right onto Vicente and then make an illegal U-turn to head west. Dangerous because of the large number of St Cecilia school children trying to use the crosswalks there. West Portal is another "accident waiting to happen" site. A single patrol officer could be kept busy all day tagging the scofflaws that endanger the public with illegal U-turns on that busy street.
Thanks for asking,

Hello there:
I have several concerns but at this time I can not offer any solutions, can anybody address these issues?
1. BREAKING LAWS; SAFETY ISSUE:
There is a serious breakdown of rude, disrespectful, non-courteous drivers in cars, not obeying the pedestrian cross walk rules or the laws. This problem occurs every single day in any given part of the city. Pedestrians crossing at the cross walk and the driver of the car does not yield at all when the ped is in the middle of the crosswalk. They drive right next to you in the cross walk and many times they Read This Posty »

All too many times I read about or hear on the media as to another "poor poor pedestrian" was severely injured or killed by an evil motorist not caring about the lives of others and driving dangerously.
Hogwash!
As an ex-commercial all class vehicle driver I've seen congestion take its toll on this city, as well as others. The people crossing the street are not looking out for their own lives, and have much less respect for the road rules also. I have NO problem with jaywalkers who use their brain and cross safely. People who jaywalk or cross against the light Read This Posty »

San Francisco has a lot going for it, but it lacks some things that would make the city run a lot more smoothly.
1. GAVIN NEWSOM THRUWAY. Living near Franklin, Gough and Van Ness makes for dangerous lives. Each day thousands of motorists try to get through the city and are forced on city streets to get there. They speed down Franklin and frequently run red lights. If there is an event going on near the Civic center, it's really dangerous for pedestrians. It also creates a jam in the middle of the city which dissuades people from coming to the Read This Posty »

At least twice a week I almost get run over by people who make turns too fast and almost hit me while I am legally crossing the sidewalk on the walk signal. The worst spots for this are the intersection at Masonic and Fell when people make a right onto Fell from Masonic, and on the other side of the Panhandle, where drivers make a turn either onto Masonic from Oak or Vice Versa. These are the most dangerous spots I encounter, but I have had near death experiences other places as well.
My second pet peeve is that bike riders Read This Posty »
