Muni and Drug Addicts
April 8th, 2007 7:43 pm

Dear Mayor Newsom,   Everyday, I come across many concerns about our community.  First off, I would like to tell you about the muni.  There are way too many graffiti artists tagging up on the muni ever time i ride the muni and nobody stops them.  What's the point of installing cameras on the bus if no actions are made.  Also, some of the muni drivers skip stops when they know they are not suppose to.  This behavior angers the people who does take the muni everyday and are in a rush to get to work or school etc.  Second, there are Read This Posty »

There are homeless people and junkies everywhere
April 5th, 2007 8:29 pm

Is it impossible to remedy? It's so depressing and embarrassing when out of towners come to visit  and all they notice are all the junkies. We have to do something - it's starting to look like the Third World out there. Name Withheld Read This Posty »

Overcrowded Trains and Homelessness
April 4th, 2007 3:16 pm

Hello Mayor Newsom~   I have two major pet peeves... I'll start with the easiest. MUNI sucks!!! I grew up in Western South Dakota and began my career there, so the whole public transportation thing rocks for me. The fact that I can live in a city and not need a car is awesome. BUT, it is completely ridiculous that the trains are always way over-crowded in the mornings. I don't mind if I'm running late getting home, that's fine. But, I hate being late for work because I can't get onto a train. I literally wait for 30 to 45 minutes Read This Posty »

Substance Abusers on the Streets
April 3rd, 2007 2:39 pm

We are not the only city in the nation with a drug problem, nor are we the only city with a homeless problem. But we are the only city I know of who in 2007 continues to allow intoxicated people to relieve themselves on the sidewalk, lie in the gutter stoned, and publicly use illegal substances in our business districts, family residential areas, and tourist locations. Whatever happened to the City That Knows How?   Addressing substance abuse and homelessness on a citywide scale will require creative solutions. But preventing this type of public behavior is simple -- we should all stop Read This Posty »

My neighborhood
April 3rd, 2007 2:20 pm

I've lived at California at Hyde street since 1993 and what was once a great neighborhood it is now a toilet (literally and figuratively). The street is always covered with garbage, My husband and I find junkies passed out in front of our door on a regular basis (we had to get a gate as it was getting dangerous), they leave all their garbage, paraphernalia and human waste for us to clean up . Street prostitution is now a regular thing across from my house and we've been calling the police at least 2-3 times a month for seeing illegal Read This Posty »

Homelessness
April 3rd, 2007 2:14 pm

As a lifelong bleeding heart liberal, my heart and often my wallet goes out to the people who for whatever reason find themselves living on our streets. They are becoming our very own “untouchables’ as we move toward a caste system in our society. The rich get richer, the poor get poorer, and the middle class gets squeezed and is quickly disappearing throughout our nation and our city. I’m not a native San Franciscan, but San Francisco is the place I’ve called home for many years and it feels more like home to me than the city of my birth Read This Posty »

CLEAN UP!
April 1st, 2007 5:31 pm

For a "world class city", San Francisco is filthy and disgusting.  Crack smoking, drunkeness, people bugging me for change ALL THE TIME... makes me wonder why I pay so much to live here.  CLEAN UP! Name Withheld Read This Posty »

Hyde Sreet Crack/Meth Smoking/Dealking
April 1st, 2007 4:49 pm

My biggest would be the incesant crack/meth smoking/dealing on the Hyde street blocks below Sutter Street. This has seemed to become a true haven for users/dealers lately and I RARELY see police addressing this excrutiatingly preditable activity. Also, NEVER seen a Muni official stop people from entering the back of 38 line during rush hour. It is claimed they do, but I've nebver missed a ride in 3 years living here and haven't seen even ONE yet. WHY do I continue to pay $45/month when it is THAT easy to steal a ride?! Lastly, those damn Harley Davidsons. They could Read This Posty »

“This town needs an enema”
March 28th, 2007 8:39 pm

My pet peeves: Homeless on every corner especially the rude ones that don't take no for an answer.  Streets that are in shabby condition and falling apart.  Politician's that have affairs and think nothing of it.  Older men that date young girls barely out of high school.  The lack of morals and values that breed like bacteria from the leaders of this city and trickle down to the above mentioned homeless.  I'm sick to death of seeing grown men urinating and masterbating on the city streets.  And while I'm at it I really am disgusted with how smokers rights are Read This Posty »

We need to do better
March 28th, 2007 8:31 pm

The continuing problem with the "hard core" homeless in our neighborhoods and parks needs to be addressed aggressively.    I'm all for Care Not Cash and the Community Courts Initiative, but Mayor Newsom needs to realize that homelessness is still plaguing lots of SF neighborhoods and causing a serious decline in our quality of life.  I've lived in the Haight Ashbury for 17 years, and I have so many horror stories about encounters with homeless people in my neighborhood that I could fill hundreds of web pages!  My personal favorite is the time that my 11-year old nephew was visiting from Read This Posty »

Hatin’ on the Haight
March 28th, 2007 4:49 pm

Haight Street and the entrance to Golden Gate Park are just downright dangerous. The Haight has been described as "eclectic" but it is just plain confrontational. There have been violent confrontations on shoppers and residents for not giving money to panhandlers, or simply for no reason at all. Unlike other areas of the city, where there are truly needy people that need help, this area is filled with young, aggressive people that are more interested in taking drugs and causing problems than in improving their situation. Because of this violence, many vendors have moved from the neighborhood, and many tourists Read This Posty »

Too Much Hollywood
March 28th, 2007 11:41 am

It seems you are becoming very Hollywood to me.  Your personal life is in the paper to much and it over shadows your accomplishments.  People only remember the bad so put this much effort into your service to the city.  Oh and the free Muni idea.  Not even acceptable.  I take the surface bus at 4 in the morning out of the 10 people who paid the rest of the bus is a homeless, druggers free ride and shelter.  I would really like you try another method.
