I love San Francisco and don't want it to change. My friends and I can buy and trade drugs openly, throw our garbage on the street, disobey traffic laws (even with the SFPD present - those lazy f*cks) and even commit burglary and know we won't be pursued. Keep up the good work Chief Fong!!

After C. W. Nevius's article in the Chronicle about the homeless advocates once again mobilizing to block enforcement of laws on living in the Park, I officially give up all hope that the "homeless" problem will ever end. So it's goodbye Main Public Library, goodbye Golden Gate Park, goodbye a major stretch of Market Street (from Powell to Octavia), goodbye to much of Van Ness, goodbye Civic Center. All of these areas are no longer for the majority of the population. They are for the homeless to do whatever they please in.
I would just remind people of the photographs Read This Posty »

What is bothering me when we reach the end of the rope in assisting the homeless which this problem has been going on for a long time now. Since we developed this criminal court system the progress is going in the right direction but what do we do with the homeless who do not comply with the counseling assistance towards a better quality of life. Since a week ago I have seen at least one homeless person or more sleeping on the streets still. Yet we as taxpayers are contributing to the cause of helping the homeless which indicates compassion. I sincerely hope you are still reading this site Mr. Mayor, and not ignoring it now that's you've won the reelection. In either event, I have made three recent phone calls to the non emergency police line in the past week to report serious harassment by crack-smoking thugs on the 500 block of Hyde street towards anyone passing by and interrupting their glorious and ever-protected cocaine smoking binge, only to have had the line ring, ring ring and ring...with NO answer!! On the third attempt, they took my info and said someone would be coming right over. 45 minutes later Read This Posty »

Professionals living in such a great city as San Francisco have the right to be able to commute to and from work in a dignified manner using public transportation! Instead, as a rule (not exception), we are sandwiched in on the bus, often with drunks, drug addicts and REEKING homeless people. We need more frequent buses (I ride the 38 line), we need drivers to be accountable for not showing up to work, and please tell the drivers not to let stinky homeless people on. Forget fairness and treating everyone with respect - it is utterly unfair to force everyone Read This Posty »

The homeless situation in San Francisco has gone from bad to worse. All those promises when you were running for mayor have gone up in smoke simply because there are seemingly more, and seem to be entrenched. In those days before the election I once saw you on the Van Ness Avenue divider strip, bent over, talking to a homeless person. I thought to myself that here we have, finally, a man who intends to do something to solve the homeless situation. It was not to be. Not perceptiably at least.
Soon after I saw you, as I prepared to go Read This Posty »

I am one of few San Franciscans with the amazing ability to walk to work! However, almost every day when I walk by Galileo High School on Bay @ Van Ness, the kids are smoking cigarettes and POT right in FRONT OF THE SCHOOL! I notice there is almost always a police car parked by the school, but have yet to see the officer. It would be great if more attention could be paid to what is happening on the street in front on the school with these kids! It would be nice to not have to inhale their pot, Read This Posty »

Dear Mayor,
While I agree with your new action plan to try and get homeless people off the streets, I thought I would send a few thoughts about this topic. There are some who honestly cannot help their situation, and those are the ones who would more likely be willing to take the alternative that they would be offered. Even a shelter is better than sleeping on a sidewalk or doorway.
There are various reasons why people end up on the streets, one of them being a personal choice. Most choose it so they don't have to pay rent or other bills, Read This Posty »

I received an infraction yesterday in the tenderloin for driving in a bus lane. The problem is i was going to make a right hand turn onto Van Ness. How else do you make a right without driving in a bus lane on Geary? This is on the edge of tenderloin. About 3 blocks prior i saw a homeless man with a stolen shopping cart and an addict smoking crack. Where do we draw the line in this city? I told the officer about what i had observed and his reply was "don't you know what neighborhood you are in?" Read This Posty »

For example: The San Francisco Patients' Cooperative at 350 Divisadero Street is in the fight of its life, trying to appeal the Planning Commission's decision to end onsite medicating for its' medical cannabis patients. This after 8 years of pro-active, supportive service to not only our patients, but the city and county as well.
Stopping onsite medicating will greatly and negatively effect our many patients who come to us for Harm Reduction programs.
No other facility offers what is offered here. Patients can't medicate in their subsidized, Section 8 houses. We cater to the poor and homeless.

I don't know if this is a pet peeve or a smart solution. The city's Sanctuary Law has had the unintended consequence of allowing drug dealers to "hide" amongst those looking for work. This has impeded the ability of the police department to aggressively address drug dealing and the "magnet" issues that come with it (drug abuse, public drinking, public urination, etc.). Isn't it possible to enact two ordinances that will let people look for work, and let the people engaged in criminal activity "stand out"?
1. I think I have seen your "sit and lie" proposal or loitering proposal. If Read This Posty »

I'm a big fan. Thanks for so much. My problem is the drug dealing and using outside my house on Julian Avenue and outside my back gate on Caledonia alley, both off 16th between Mission and Valencia. Dealers and users and homeless abound. Please give the victims services and arrest the dealers. They ride in on BART, wear distinctive jackets (mostly 49ers), have bicycles, and work the alleys around the BART station. They are very obvious, at least to me. The needles, piss, and worse are a daily issue. Chris Daly has ignored our pleas. Keep up the good work Read This Posty »

I'm really hoping that you can find a way to deal with the homeless this new term. I know it has baffled everyone, but we have the filthiest city in the country. And it's because of the homeless.
I took a friend out to see Sweeney Todd on Oct 2nd, and Union Square was filled with crazy drug addled homeless people on the streets. 4 per block wanted money. Some guy who just had his heroin hit was falling down in the middle of the street. My husband said, "Must be the top of the month---he just got his check."

As a native San Franciscan (multi generation) and very proud that I am, we moved out of what should be considered a safe and desirable SF neighborhood (Cal and Van Ness) to Oakland when our baby was born last year. There were many reasons why I felt forced out of my city, but let met touch on just a few.
1) Walking outside our apartment in the early evening to see someone hunched over the next morning we found two needles
2) Having someone defecate in our driveway ramp (multiple times)
3) Prostitutes walking their beat down our street
4) Repeated vehicle vandalism (every Read This Posty »

Universal health care sounds great. How do you feel about the Tenderloin crack problem? At least a dozen people openly smoke crack all hours of the day on Jones St. between O'Farrell and Ellis. They are quite loud all hours of the night and make rude comments to woman of all ages. Open urination and defecation by these people are also major problems...I work and vote and unfortunately the Tenderloin is the only area I can barely afford to make rent. I'll keep voting for new officials till I notice real change around here. I did not vote for Chris Read This Posty »

Not illegal aliens!!!
Also I am tired of being approached by homeless people for money. Especially since one of those street bums hit me in the eye when I told him I do not have any money! Before that incident I did give some money to the people on the streets, but not any more. Most of them are addicts and they did that to themselves.

The southwest corner of Geary and Hyde, which is an open air crack market and smoking den. I have lived here 10 years and only seen cops walk this beat once. The problem is obvious to all, but no one does anything about it. When I try to chase them off, my physical safety is threatened.

Hello, I recently moved to the bay area from the central valley 3 months ago and my god this ( bay area ) is quite a culture shock- I am only from a hundred miles south-I witness anything I could possibly think of murder, dope dealing, drug usage, prostitution, threats, pedestrian hit and runs, homeless cancer patients, teens living on the streets, people rushing. But my main concern is with the city's homelessness... and how it affects the city's reputation which is not to mention by the way is declining. Most of the time their homeless situation is drug related. Read This Posty »
