People are buying, and PG&E is giving away, those energy efficient fluorescent light bulbs by the thousands, perhaps millions. However, no one seems to be informing people that these bulbs have mercury in them and must be disposed of in hazardous waste sites, not in the regular garbage and landfills. I am concerned that when they do finally burn out, thousands, even millions, of these bulbs will end up in our landfills, spilling their mercury, because people probably won't know NOT to put them in the regular garbage disposal. When I bought a box of these bulbs, I finally found

Why can't you, as Mayor, override Republicrat Diane Feinstein's influence, and get San Francisco to be energy independent? I'm sure you know that her husband is a big share holder in PG & E.
Secondly, How about converting city vehicles to electric drives, either by plug in hybrids, or better yet, 100% electric?

Pet peeve: The new federal building that is being heralded as "green" is not green at all maybe just a sickly yellow. It has windows that open and elevators that skip floors big deal. It does not have solar panels even though it has a facade that cries out for them. It does not have wind turbines although it could easily accommodate them. We allow PG&E to lie about California's true natural gas reserves, pretending the were made by 'fossils' and are 'running out'!
Instead, true science proves that hydrocarbons are available in massive quantities and should be as cheap as water used to be.
We pretend we are protecting 'national security' by keeping the truth under our hats, but really it's a ruse to collect your money, and they are laughing all the way to the bank.
How can we have a carbon policy that denies the true nature of hydrocarbons?
Only if we desire an insane society.
