Dear Mayor Gavin,
I am totally outraged regarding the poor handling of the recent oil spill in San Francisco bay. As a native Californian I love our California coastline and all of the sea life. I grew up coming to San Francisco to visit my grandmother and my father grew up in San Francisco.
Regardless of whether I live in San Jose, the poor reaction to this disaster, has killed hundreds of sea creatures, with who knows how many more to come. This disaster is not just related to San Franciscans. It affects all of us living in Northern California, but mostly

I understand that much of the paper we put in the blue recycling bins gets shipped (via polluting freighter) to China for reprocessing (in coal-powered plants) into cardboard boxes used to contain consumer goods that are shipped back to the U.S. Maybe the net impact of our paper recycling is worse for the world environment. Why don't we have a domestic green business solution for this? I am afraid we might be fooling ourselves when we recycle our paper. San Francisco could take the lead on this matter, as it does for several environmental issues. Please look into the matter

I can handle waiting half an hour for an N to show up at Carl and Cole during morning rush hour to take me down town. It sucks but it happens so frequently Iím used to it. I can deal with the cattle-car conditions on the N itself hundreds people packed in like doomed galley slaves. I can withstand the constant barrage of delays in the tunnel. I've even grown accustomed to the terrible customer service: the surly, mean, dismissive attitude shared by most Muni drivers. These drivers routinely display the stereotypical worst behavior of the protected civil servant whom

We use plastic bags from stores as garbage bags and trash bags. We also use them to carry things. We never allow them to become litter. If the proposed ordinance takes effect, we will either have to shop at smaller stores, which often charge higher prices, or we will have to buy commercial garbage bags at the store. I do not believe that a commercial garbage bag is any better for the environment than a plastic bag. They just cost more. Paper bags are not a satisfactory substitute because they break too easily. I hope that you will veto the

What is up with all the delivery trucks, tow trucks, and …… others, that sit idling for over 30min.s at a time? Feeding the air with diesel. Is this good for the environment? Not to mention the noise pollution (along with the base boomers and Harleys)! Is there any regulation on this matter and if so….. why isn’t anything being done? I was once given the excuse by a delivery man that they can’t turn their trucks off and on for every delivery because it will kill their “starter”. I was later told by an automotive professional that that was

The island used to be a pleasant place to live, now it’s turning into a crime ridden, corruptly managed, and unsafe place to live. The redevelopment plans being put in motion are not environmentally friendly or even close to environmentally sound. Turning it into a tourist attraction and a place for the super rich to live is also an unacceptable theme. Some of my pet peeves are no longer living on the island and being forced to leave by a corrupt island administration that does nothing to protect its residents, the community, or the quality of life overall. Dirty politics,
