He needs to do something about school assignments. Gavin acknowleges that there is a problem with keeping families in San Francisco but he won't do anything about the major reason people with children are leaving. I have lived in San Francisco my entire lifetime (except for two and a half years I was in Chicago for Grad school). I love The City!!! When I was in Chicago I would brag about what a great city SF was but now that I'm home and have started a family, even I may have to move away.

If you want more children in the city, then you need to invest in them. We spend more money per homeless person than we do per child in this city. Imagine the school system we could have if we invested at the same level that we do for our homeless population. I have raised 3 children in this city. I had to pull them out of public school when it became obvious they were falling years behind. (This was one of the better public schools in the city ) If we had a decent public school system, imagine what types

I work as a Substance Abuse Counselor and it seems that every year or so programs are pitted against each other for operating costs. I work specifically with women with children. These disenfranchised women have a limited number of resources available to them - Questions to ask: How many tax dollars are being saved when healthy births to clean and sober mothers are accommodated? What's the value of a healthy family unit? How many revenues are generated by women who are encouraged to attend college?

My wife and I moved to SF ten years ago. Our combined salary is over $100,000. Yet, we (including now my 4 year old son) are unable to sustain a comfortable life in the city and are therefore leaving to live elsewhere. I can understand that life brings about changes for everyone, but it is frustrating to see Habitat for Humanity building brand new homes for low income families literally 500 feet from our current home while we are struggling.
