Unreliability of Muni
October 31st, 2007 9:18 am

My pet peeves with SF are the unreliability of Muni (why does it take me 1 hour to travel 5 miles!)  and also the trash/graffiti/crime problem, especially in the southeast side of the City. Name Withheld Read This Posty »

Homeless peeing in front of office
October 29th, 2007 10:47 am

This is a pet pee!   Homeless folks constantly sleep, pee and defecate in front of our office on Howard Street near 2nd.  Between high taxes, the parking shortage, rampant graffiti, illegal posters and flyer trash, street potholes and the stench of human waste, It makes running a business in SF extremely unpleasant.  David Blumberg Read This Posty »

Job tickets fall into a black hole
September 21st, 2007 7:23 am

Dear Mr. Mayor: 311 is great, they take my reports. Too bad the job tickets they write fall into a black hole of unresponsive, do nothing city departments who fail miserably to actually get the work completed. I'm am specifically speaking of either the City Sign Shop or the DPT. There are two eye level Street Cleaning signs on either side of Alabama Street near 20th Street that vandals have ripped out of the frame and stolen. I've called this into 311 at least 4 times over 4 months and the signs have yet to be replaced. I called you office, spoke Read This Posty »

The “Broken Window” theory
September 6th, 2007 7:29 am

This explanation of the "broken window" theory was written by Henry G. Cisneros when he was Secretary of Housing and Urban Development. It was published in a series of essays titled "Defensible Space: Deterring Crime and Building Community" - January 1995. James Q. Wilson and George Kelling developed the `broken windows' thesis to explain the signaling function of neighborhood characteristics. This thesis suggests that the following sequence of events can be expected in deteriorating neighborhoods. Evidence of decay (accumulated trash, broken windows, deteriorated building exteriors) remains in the neighborhood for a reasonably long period of time. People who live and Read This Posty »

Graffiti is Everywhere
August 20th, 2007 9:42 am

It seems that everywhere - and I mean everywhere - is defaced by graffiti.  It's absolutely terrible and it also seems as if nothing is being done about it.  I live in the Sunset, and everywhere you look, you see defacement and vandalism by these people who think any surface is their tablet!  I ride MUNI every day, and very rarely am I on a bus or street car that doesn't have some kind of graffiti vandalism. Graffiti, littering of all sorts, and pointless destruction of structures
August 20th, 2007 9:30 am

It's hard to pick one and only one, but I suppose my pet peeve encompasses graffiti, littering of all sorts, and pointless destruction of structures meant for everyone's use and pleasure, such as bus shelters, benches, and public plantings.  If only there were sufficient police and park rangers to safeguard our lovely city and keep it from sliding into one vast, unflushed toilet.  The bad guys are definitely winning this round.  I'd gladly pay more taxes just to get the city cleaned up and keep it that way. Mission war zone
July 23rd, 2007 8:04 am

Rising crime, graffiti and streets only a 3rd world country could be proud of.   What is the plan, Gavin, for our streets?  Seems there are lots of initiatives for relatively small and needy (and deserving) sections of our city's populace...what about the bigger problems. Graffiti Happens - Don’t turn a Blind Eye if you witness it
June 20th, 2007 7:28 am

Walking back from the dentist today (no cavities, thank you very much) I saw something that really made me wince. Right there on a crowded downtown union square street corner (Geary and Stockton) at 3pm, some short punky guy is personalizing the public bus with a purple etch-a-sketch marker. I can't figure out what it says of course, but that's the point of graffiti isn't it? The most remarkable fact was that about 10 onlookers were just STANDING there watching him! As I walked past the stopped bus, trying to figure out why no one was saying anything, the vandalist jogs Read This Posty »

Graffiti Slowly Destroying the Beauty of San Francisco
June 19th, 2007 8:33 am

I am very concerned as I hope you are Mayor Newsom over the amount of graffiti that is slowly destroying the beauty of San Francisco. I am not referring to the beautiful murals, but to the inane, pointless tagging on buildings - some of them historical, shops, garages, bridges (god knows how they get up that high!). I think we have all become far to used to this sight.. but I sure that visitors, tourists must take a step back. I urge you to provide more supervision, and vigilance in order to apprehend those who are doing it on the Read This Posty »

Horrid Graffiti Covering Our Great City
June 18th, 2007 8:01 am

Again, I'm writing in hopes that the city will take seriously the horrid graffiti that is covering our great city & do more about it then just the volunteer anti-graffiti program. It just is not enough to have volunteers removing the graffiti. It in my opinion has been on the rise in the last 3 years since I have lived here. We do not hold private owners or the city to cleaning up their homes or buildings. If the mayor is not going to make this important then who is & the city will only continue on a down hill Read This Posty »

MUNI Reliability and Availability
June 14th, 2007 8:58 am

It is frustrating to get around in this city. I've contemplated buying a car just to get from point A to point B on time, and it seems like our MUNI woes are recursive. People can't get where they want to go in a reliable manner so they use cars which clog the streets and make it harder for MUNI drivers to navigate which makes the busses later which makes more people opt for cars... I also believe that reliable public transit would help on a number of other fronts. People who are in economic hardship are likely to be forced Read This Posty »

Motorcycle Noise
June 14th, 2007 8:55 am

A simple solution is to enforce the noise limit laws.  No one driving a car could get away with the noise that people riding motorcycles is allowed to get away with.  This isn't rocket science.  It is simply law enforcement.  While you are at it, enforce graffiti, panhandling, and bikes off the sidewalks. This city is one of the dirtiest I have ever lived in
June 4th, 2007 11:59 am

Dear Gavin I worked on your campaign 4 years ago - 1 - Clean streets - This city is one of the dirtiest I have ever lived in - (And I have lived on 3 continents and in 7 Cities) 2 - MUNI is a joke 3 - There is enough graffiti here to paint the empire state building with 2 coats of paint 4 - I have tried to meet with you countless times times regarding these and other local issues - Never heard a word from you or your office 5 - As for marriage equality and other world changing initiatives - Read This Posty »
