Graffiti Remover
May 21st, 2007 8:35 am

At one time the city provided Graffiti Remover free of charge to residents willing to remove graffiti from their neighborhood. I understand from 311 that this program has been discontinued due to the cost. The most important factor in limiting graffiti is to remove it as soon as possible -- both for ease of removal and also for reducing the amount of re-occurrence. My husband removes graffiti from several blocks in our neighborhood. I would like to see the city provide graffiti remover at no cost so he and others like him can continue this good work. City Streets
May 17th, 2007 10:56 am

Dear Mayor, The condition of our city streets is a  disgrace to this great city. Resurfacing of many streets is long over due and  badly needed. I drive down Bush each Am to work the potholes and irregular surface are unacceptable. I recently visited my home town Pgh Penna a city with significant economic hardship in recent years. The infrastructure of the city is  well maintained. My wife is from Hamburg Germany and you cannot even begin to compare the well kept streets and absence of graffiti and clean public spaces  to SF. What a shame to have let this Read This Posty »

Graffiti and golf course dumpings
May 9th, 2007 10:19 am

Graffitti is rampant and stays up too long and encourages other taggers to hit the same spot! Also the swale area at Lincoln Park Golf Course is disgusting as is the playground equipment (old and dangerous) the golf course dumps its cuttings off the side of the hill behind the maintenance buildings (on the side of my house / behind the old Albertsons @ 32nd / Clement) and NEVER picks it up! I have been fighting this for 4 years with no satisfaction! Name Withheld Read This Posty »

Graffiti, break-ins, traffic and the homeless
May 8th, 2007 1:53 pm

I love this city!  It's been wonderful to me and i want to see it improve.  It hurts to see such a beautiful city (1) plagued with graffiti, I don't know what the intrigue is, but it's everywhere.  Maybe I'd understand if I could actually read what it is, but for the most part, it's some jerk's street name or the posse he runs with or whatever and it's less than artistic to say the least.  (2) My car was been broken into twice within a month in the Lower Haight district.  I didn't even bother reporting the second incident Read This Posty »

All the complainers
April 18th, 2007 2:57 pm

All the people here who are complaining about the piss-stained streets, the late buses, the bad streets, crazy people running around, the homeless, and the graffiti.  These are the essence of a large city, you crazy over-privileged people!  Come on, get out of your million-dollar homes and learn to frickin' deal with life like the rest of us. Besides, I like the graffiti and the crazy people are a form of entertainment for me while I wait for the late buses. Name Withheld Read This Posty »

Muni and Drug Addicts
April 8th, 2007 7:43 pm

Dear Mayor Newsom,   Everyday, I come across many concerns about our community.  First off, I would like to tell you about the muni.  There are way too many graffiti artists tagging up on the muni ever time i ride the muni and nobody stops them.  What's the point of installing cameras on the bus if no actions are made.  Also, some of the muni drivers skip stops when they know they are not suppose to.  This behavior angers the people who does take the muni everyday and are in a rush to get to work or school etc.  Second, there are Read This Posty »

DPW ineffective in the graffiti abatement effort
April 5th, 2007 8:11 pm

Though I am not a member of the Graffiti Advisory Board, I have been very involved with the GAB for well over a year. I live in district 6 (SOMA) where the worst graffiti problem in SF resides. I have been extremely active in providing photographic evidence and have e-mails for every piece of graffiti tht I have reported. I have been very constructive in providing my time and by providing proof to help DPW improve its efforts at enforcing graffiti abatement (I am focused on provate property). We have recently gotten the City Attorney's office to dedicate resources to Read This Posty »

Lack of cooperation of business owners,
April 3rd, 2007 8:17 pm

Thanks for allowing  us a voice to  some of the problems we face in SF.  First I want to say, in my opinion you are doing a great job.  If there weren't so many people trying to put you down, just let you get on with what you are trying to do, which is not an easy task.  One of the concerns I have is the lack of cooperation of business owners, keeping their areas clean. Business owners should be required to keep their areas clean.  They don't seem to do that on Irving st. starting on 5th Ave all Read This Posty »

Get the WiFi Up
April 3rd, 2007 2:09 pm

I would like to know why it is taking the glorious city by the bay so long to get free wi-fi up and running throughout the city.  I believe that Portland, Oregon was also considering at about the same time we were.  Guess what?  Someone I know from Portland told me they have citywide free wifi up and running throughout their city.  Why can't we get moving on this?  Is this city buried in red tape?  Also, downtown Portland is absolutely beautiful, with no graffiti.  They also don't have any gum or cigarette butts on the sidewalks, either.  Additionally, they Read This Posty »

Fill in the cracks
April 3rd, 2007 1:49 pm

Dear Mayor, I have a few pet peeves lately: The intersection of Lombard and Van Ness. I walk to and from work through this intersection daily and have to carefully examine each step of the pavement so as not to break my goddamn neck each day. Can't someone hook up some concrete mix to fill in the cracks? It's looked like crap for 3 years now. On this walk I notice at least one car broken into a day. My husband's car has been broken into three times now. The cop at the police station nearly laughed once when we went to report it. Muni, Art, and Graffiti
April 3rd, 2007 1:39 pm

As an artist, I yearn for more public art and projects in which inspire our community. Support local art projects and support the artists that want to still live in this city. This does not include graffiti, however. Graffiti is a huge problem, especially near Muni stops. Many busy Muni stops in the city are filled with graffiti and garbage. I feel for anyone who lives adjacent to a Muni stop. Muni buses continue to get more and more crowded. I have lived here for 13 years, and each year gets worse and worse. I ride the #1 California most often, and Read This Posty »

Garbage on the streets
April 3rd, 2007 12:47 pm

I live and work in the Mission and sometimes feel like I work for the City, picking up garbage on the sidewalks between work and home. I also clean tags off our building every week.  My pet Peeve is the garbage.  My clients and visiting family from other parts of the country come to my little area of the Mission and feel a bit threatened by the area I live in.  The prostitution problem seems to be getting resolved, but the trash and tagging is still just ridiculous.  Please put out more City trash cans and catch those tagging criminals.  Read This Posty »

Haight Graffiti
April 3rd, 2007 12:42 pm

I live in the lower Haight and am appalled by the amount of graffiti on storefronts and residential buildings.  As soon as it's painted over, it seems to appear again and in even larger amounts.  I've heard graffiti is a difficult crime to prosecute, but still it is unacceptable.  I'd like to see more police patrols on Haight in the late evening/early morning hours to deter this eyesore on our community. Remove the graffiti
April 1st, 2007 5:34 pm

I'm a part of the anti-graffiti movement in SF but after I report graffiti on private properties to 28-clean..little is done to keep on the owners to remove the graffiti. I follow up on my reports & still nothing happens after months. Why have this outlet if the city is not enforcing these owners to paint their properties & remove the graffiti quickly. It is a proven fact that the longer one let's the graffiti stay in place the more graffiti they will get. PLEASE, make this 28-clean do their job & follow up on these property owners. Paint is Read This Posty »

SOMA Homeless
April 1st, 2007 4:40 pm

Having to walk to and from work every day up the middle of my SOMA street because both sidewalks are either blocked by homeless encampments or have fresh human excrement and/or vomit on them.  It's disgusting.  We constantly call Southern Station and/or DPW and nothing is ever done.  Also, the moronic tagging of everything - even the new palm trees at Howard and 6th Street.  And the corner stores who sell cheap liquor in brown paper bags, who just add to the homeless problem, by encouraging them to get drunk and often abusive.  I can't wait for 6th Street to Read This Posty »
