Taxis in San Francisco
November 14th, 2007 2:52 pm

Dear Mayor, Why is it IMPOSSIBLE to get a cab in this city? Why so cabbies drive past with their lights on without stopping? Why are there lines and lines of people waiting for rides and not enough cabs? Why does this metropolitan city pale in comparison to NYC where taxis are concerned? Why are cabs allowed to arbitrarily decide if they want to give you a ride? (In New York City and other major cities, they cannot refuse a ride.) Why should I have to wait on the phone endlessly trying to hail a cab and get nothing? Why does this "green" city not provide for Read This Posty »

Contamination of our landfills with mercury?
October 31st, 2007 9:17 am

People are buying, and PG&E is giving away, those energy efficient fluorescent light bulbs by the thousands, perhaps millions.  However, no one seems to be informing people that these bulbs have mercury in them and must be disposed of in hazardous waste sites, not in the regular garbage and landfills. I am concerned that when they do finally burn out, thousands, even millions, of these bulbs will end up in our landfills, spilling their mercury, because people probably won't know NOT to put them in the regular garbage disposal.  When I bought a box of these bulbs, I finally found Read This Posty »

Let’s stop pretending that limited parking is cleaning up the air
October 31st, 2007 9:14 am

I often spend as much time driving around looking for parking as I do driving to my destination.  If people could drive straight to a parking garage near where they are going it would cut pollution in half.  Not to mention make it a lot less frustrating to live or visit SF, and enhance local businesses near the garages.  Name Withheld Read This Posty »

Override Republicrat Diane Feinstein’s influence
October 30th, 2007 11:10 am

Why can't you, as Mayor, override Republicrat Diane Feinstein's influence, and get San Francisco to be energy independent?  I'm sure you know that her husband is a big share holder in PG & E.  Secondly, How about converting city vehicles to electric drives, either by plug in hybrids, or better yet, 100% electric? No trees on street
October 25th, 2007 1:15 pm

I live on Fell St. in between Scott and Divisadero -- a virtual freeway, but with no street trees to soak up the exhaust.  I've contacted the appropriate city official to request a tree planting but received no response.  This street (and the residents who live on it) desperately needs more trees!  Sincerely, Choaking in fumes Read This Posty »

Wasting water
October 25th, 2007 1:14 pm

There is a street hose bid in front of One Geary that has been leaking for years.  I have reported it to DPW more than once and it still leaks.  There is always water running into the gutter. Bertle Campbell-Ward Read This Posty »

Chloramine in our drinking water/tap water instead of just fluoride
October 17th, 2007 7:42 am

I promise that if SF switches back to fluoride instead of chloramine WHICH CONTAINS AMMONIA I will never buy bottled water to drink again.  Our family hates to buy bottled water, but we just don't want to drink ammonia. The day San Francisco switched to chloramine, some people got very ill.  If it's not suitable for fish tanks, how good could it be for humans? Also, chloramine leaves a rough sediment on glasses where it sits for awhile, and chloraminated water evaporates much faster than bottled water. Tomasita Med·l Read This Posty »

When will MUNI ever be fixed
October 15th, 2007 1:57 pm

I have lived in the city for 26 years always relying on Muni for transportation. Until a few years ago it was a fantastic, efficient service at a very reasonable fee. It has become a very poor transit system if you ask me. Our city officials want less cars on the streets and more people to ride Muni but have not put more trains or buses in service and have not shortened the time you have to wait for one. You can't have more demand without more supply. With the exception of the 38 Geary which seems to run fairly frequently still Read This Posty »

Add additional sanitation workers after events
October 15th, 2007 7:54 am

I am thrilled to live in a city which attracts and encourages so many diverse activities. Fleet Week was an amazing show of hospitality and community which is the heart of San Francisco. However, The Marina, our little quaint yet a tad affluent community suffers drastically with the events held on the Marina Green and Fort Mason. The Green is still suffering the damage of cooking oil being allowed to be dumped on the grass, plastic rip ties littering and mass amounts of plastic waste which is blowing into the Bay. Last night was the conclusion of Oktoberfest, now, don't get Read This Posty »

Repair the Potholes first
October 8th, 2007 10:28 am

Portola Drive is being beautified with new trees, etc. In the meantime the pot holes just become bigger and bigger. I am sure that I have reduced the value of my car from driving over those pot holes. Yes, to beauty but c'mon those pot holes have to be repaired first. Name Withheld Read This Posty »

Where is the urban planning along the Embarcadero
October 8th, 2007 10:19 am

There is unrestrained over development along the Embarcadero the Ferry Building neighborhood  which seems unplanned and unsupervised. Where is the urban planning and oversight of deed restrictions, protection of open air, green and recreation facilities  for this important area? Name Withheld Read This Posty »

I’m a biker and support all non-oil burning forms of transportation
September 17th, 2007 7:18 am

I understand some people need to drive, but private vehicles and buses that run red lights should be ticketed. I have almost been hit several times and one of those times a police car was at the intersection of Market and Hayes and did not do a thing. Please ensure that our laws are enforced for our own safety - especially for those of us trying to save our world for the next generations and have no chance of survival against 2 tons of steel.  Thank you! -Jen Read This Posty »

A lovely Welcome to SF!
September 10th, 2007 8:35 am

The new green newspaper bins are great except when they allow for people to use the sides of them as urinals. This is occurring every day on the corner of 7th/Market St. (check cashing store corner).  A guy can stand in between the two Green Bins which allows them to pee w/o being exposed. There is so much urine that it cascades out right in front of the Bart/Muni stairs to go underground. Such a lovely Welcome to SF!?!? Terry Clark Read This Posty »

Climate change is one of the only issues that literally affects EVERYONE
July 26th, 2007 8:21 am

Most people I know are concerned about global warming, but it's seldom brought up because of the dismally defeatist attitude that lingers about it. It's extremely difficult to change the way people conduct their lives, and thats why SF needs stronger leadership and more tangible goals to attain (one thing at a time) in the fight against climate change. I don't understand why this isn't brought up more in local politics. Sure, it's a world issue, but is San Francisco not a part of the world? Chris Hession Read This Posty »

New Federal Building is Yellow
July 24th, 2007 7:05 am

Pet peeve: The new federal building that is being heralded as "green" is not green at all maybe just a sickly yellow.  It has windows that open and elevators that skip floors  big deal.  It does not have solar panels even though it has a facade that cries out for them.  It does not have wind turbines although it could easily accommodate them.  There is no mention of recycling grey water.  The steel mesh facade could be used to collect rain water or even morning dew for grey water use e.g., irrigation, window washing, flushing toilets, etc.  Of all of Read This Posty »

Midtown Terrace
July 16th, 2007 11:53 am

Midtown Terrace neighbors are upset about a green area possibly selling to a developer --  without any studies or forethought about the effect on the neighborhood.  They sent an email to city supervisors last week.  Please check this out!  I'm also concerned about the beauty of Twin Peaks being destroyed.  You can post your news on our Yahoo group website : Midtown Terrace Thanks, I'm tired of hearing about this. Critical Mass Polutes San Francisco
July 3rd, 2007 7:19 am

Gavin,  I believe that the time has come (actually the time came long ago) to end the last Friday ritual known as 'Critical Mass'.  This effort by bicyclists to gain attention in San Francisco has been going on since I moved to the City 13 years ago, and is even less relevant now than it was at that time.  The effect that it has on the City, due to wasted gasoline, increased pollution, and frayed tempers is not worth the potential political fallout that ending this event might have.  There is no constructive benefit to having the event-none of the Read This Posty »
