I have been a resident of Haight-Ashbury for over 3 years. The amount of young, homeless, and aggressive panhandlers on Haight is staggering. I have yet to see any any improvement, or any plans for improvement. Please tell me what is being done to curb this problem.

Dear Mr. Mayor,
My pet peeve is as follows: I live in Hayes Valley and ever since Octavia Blvd opened, Laguna Street seems like it has become a frontage road for freeway access. During rush hour there is severe gridlock along the following intersections: Laguna/Waller, Laguna/Haight, Laguna/Page, Laguna/Oak and Laguna/Fell. Oak and Fell were fairly busy prior to The Boulevard opening, but now they are worse. Waller, Haight and Page which used to be fairly peaceful are horrible. Motorists road rage through the neighborhood causing traffic gridlock and blocking crosswalks. At the very least I would like boldly painted crosswalks at Read This Posty »

Way too much of it, and it languishes. We moved over by USF from Graffiti Central (aka Lower Haight). Though there wasn't much when we moved in a couple of years ago, it is starting to sprout like an ugly weed around here too.

I love this city! It's been wonderful to me and i want to see it improve. It hurts to see such a beautiful city (1) plagued with graffiti, I don't know what the intrigue is, but it's everywhere. Maybe I'd understand if I could actually read what it is, but for the most part, it's some jerk's street name or the posse he runs with or whatever and it's less than artistic to say the least. (2) My car was been broken into twice within a month in the Lower Haight district. I didn't even bother reporting the second incident Read This Posty »

As a recent arrival to SF, I have many of the usual suspects to comment on, Muni, noise, trash, street conditions, etc., etc. But the SINGLE biggest issue I have, is the lack of police presence in certain parts of the city. I am frankly astounded that there are not more patrols on upper Haight street near the park/Amoeba/Red Vic/Escape from NY, etc. I have witnessed more assaults in a few months here than at any time in my life. And it is on the SAME 3 blocks, yet I RARELY see routine patrols. Not even at 2 when everything Read This Posty »

I live in the lower Haight and am appalled by the amount of graffiti on storefronts and residential buildings. As soon as it's painted over, it seems to appear again and in even larger amounts. I've heard graffiti is a difficult crime to prosecute, but still it is unacceptable. I'd like to see more police patrols on Haight in the late evening/early morning hours to deter this eyesore on our community.

The continuing problem with the "hard core" homeless in our neighborhoods and parks needs to be addressed aggressively. I'm all for Care Not Cash and the Community Courts Initiative, but Mayor Newsom needs to realize that homelessness is still plaguing lots of SF neighborhoods and causing a serious decline in our quality of life. I've lived in the Haight Ashbury for 17 years, and I have so many horror stories about encounters with homeless people in my neighborhood that I could fill hundreds of web pages! My personal favorite is the time that my 11-year old nephew was visiting from Read This Posty »
