I got a letter yesterday from a friend I had written to about the ruination of SF by drunks and those who advocate public drunkenness and its attendant filth (aka "Homeless Advocates"). His response contained a sentence that I think sums it all up: "Living up here in Seattle, I see some of the same creeping consensus to do nothing so as to offend no one but irritate nearly all." Perfect.
This is for Jessica below who has the van in front of her house. You ask what rights you have? In the eyes of the people who run this city:

Riding home to Hayes Valley from 2nd & Market on MUNI and having to pass through Market & 6th, 7th & 8th St. which looks like the dirtiest, most disgusting and dangerous part of Gotham City during a crime wave with homeless crackheads, drug dealers, pimps & prostitutes and then having 2 or 3 of them jump onto MUNI to get a free ride on the bus that I just paid a ridiculous fare of $1.50 for!!!!

It's a beautiful neighborhood to live in with lots to offer it--great restaurants and shops, gorgeous Victorians, walking distance to multiple music venues. And with the Octavia Boulevard project nearly finished it's just getting better.
However, we have since our first day here experienced fear and intimidation because of the presence of groups of gangster-acting youth hanging out at the entrances of corner stores and on sidewalks where we walk at night, especially near the housing project at Laguna and Hayes streets. It's upsetting when several
