What’s wrong with this picture?
November 16th, 2007 10:20 am

What are you doing for the people who pay taxes in this city and are funding all of your giveaway programs?  I can't afford to buy a home, but I can support the homeless and  pay for healthcare for everyone.  What's wrong with this picture? Jim Marshall Read This Posty »

Not Impressed with Free Health Care
October 10th, 2007 12:07 pm

Dear Mayor Newsom:   I would like to inform you that I am not at all impressed with your plan to give all uninsured residents in San Francisco free health care.  I am a seventy one (71) year old woman who has lived in San Francisco for sixty five (65) years.  I own a home in District 7 which I have to maintain.  I retired from the Federal Government in 1991 after 36 1/2 years of service.  I live on a fixed income and receive approximately a 2.9% Cost of Living Increase (COLA) each year.  $157.00 is taken out of my Read This Posty »

I.D.’s for illegal aliens
October 5th, 2007 8:54 am

Mr. Mayor, I'd like you to know that not every citizen of S.F. is in favor of I.D.'s for illegal aliens, or health care for illegal aliens and people making up to $80K/annum. Thanks for listening. Frank Read This Posty »

The health care plan costs too much for someone like me
October 5th, 2007 8:53 am

I'm low-income, retired, and disabled. I'm a couple years too young for MediCare (now 63). Before I retired at 62, when alternating with temping and being unemployed, I was able to use Medi-Cal. After I retired I was told by Medi-Cal that I now make too much money ($1,400 a month small retirement pension and regular Social Security) so would now have to "share the cost" when I used Medi-Cal. My share the first time I tried to get my necessary glaucoma eyedrops was $94 a month. No way could I ever pay anything like that. Medi-Cal does not care Read This Posty »

Crack Problem in the Tenderloin
September 26th, 2007 12:04 pm

Universal health care sounds great. How do you feel about the Tenderloin crack problem? At least a dozen people openly smoke crack all hours of the day on Jones St. between O'Farrell  and Ellis. They are quite loud all hours of the night and make rude comments to woman of all ages. Open urination and defecation by these people are also major problems...I work and vote and unfortunately the Tenderloin is the only area I can barely afford to make rent. I'll keep voting for new officials till I notice real change around here. I did not vote for Chris Read This Posty »

Stop Union Busting
September 26th, 2007 11:57 am

I am glad that you Gavin, are trying to do something about our SF HC System.  But please stop letting all of the non-union businesses into our City that has a long history of being a Union town.  We need our Unions, we need to support our working people in SF.  God knows there are so few left due to the high prices of housing in SF.  I am so glad that I can live here but only because I bought my house so long ago.  STOP UNION BUSTING we are in a crisis here.  Let's problem solve instead of Read This Posty »

The ActLocallySF Petitions
September 24th, 2007 7:50 am

Structure your request to "sign the petition" as a single, option select process, rather than many separate items requiring multiple name, email entry. Is tedious, and I quit after the first, on Health Care. Best to you, Gavin! Name Withheld Read This Posty »

I support Universal Health Care for AMERICAN CITIZENS
September 24th, 2007 7:49 am

Not illegal aliens!!! Also I am tired of being approached by homeless people for money. Especially since one of those street bums hit me in the eye when I told him I do not have any money! Before that incident I did give some money to the people on the streets, but not any more. Most of them are addicts and they did that to themselves. Name Withheld Read This Posty »

Paying for Illegals
September 24th, 2007 7:41 am

I'm all for socialized health care, but I do not think it is fair to burden LEGAL CITIZENS with the cost of providing health care to ILLEGALS.  We are rewarding bad behavior and being unfair to those of us who have gone through the LEGAL immigration process. Wendl Read This Posty »

Not Accepted by Healthy San Francisco
September 22nd, 2007 7:45 am

When the Healthy San Francisco Plan first came out, I called the number and spoke to a (seemingly) very poorly prepared individual who after some discussion directed me to a website where I was led to believe I could register. This proved to be a false assumption because the website offered only to mail a brochure in August or September of this year. As a footnote, as of today's date, 9/20/07, I have yet to receive even this requested brochure. Upon calling back I was told that there was only a test group involved at the time and only 2 Read This Posty »

Healthcare plans that I have to pay for both myself and others
September 21st, 2007 10:07 am

I object that the use term "forced" is used with regard to the uninsured's pursuit of emergency room care: it falsely assumes that simply because one is uninsured, one cannot procure any health care services short of emergency room care when in fact many can and do simply pay for medical services (preventative or otherwise). Also, I object to the false assumption that emergency room care must be rendered at great expense, when in fact emergency room physicians are readily capable of simply turning away would-be patients who do not require emergency services.  This realization leads to the conclusion that Read This Posty »

I do not support giving government more control over our lives
September 21st, 2007 9:55 am

We live in free society.  I do not support giving government more control over our lives.  I support health care spending accounts, 100% tax deductibility for all health care related expenses.  LET US TAKE CARE OF OUR HEALTH CARE, YOU FIX THE HOLES IN THE STREET. Steve Read This Posty »

Get a Job!
September 21st, 2007 9:38 am

Sorry, but the primary way that people can get health care is to get a job.  Or pay for it out of pocket.  Many of the uninsured prioritize car payments, cigarettes and direct TV over health insurance.  For most it's a matter of choice.   Unless there is a provision for healthy living and benefit for taking care of yourself, this is something that is just not worth the tax dollars I already spend.   This is the city and county of San Francisco, don't make into the DDR of the west coast.   Fix the schools, streets and get homeless people and junkies to stop Read This Posty »

Providing services to illegals
September 21st, 2007 9:34 am

Dear Gavin,   While I am generally in support of universal health care, I am replying to say that I am very much opposed to providing services to those who have entered the country illegally.   I would not expect to have services provided to me in a country where I was residing in contradiction to their law, and I believe the same standard should apply in this country. I recognize that the federal government has not done its part in enforcing the law. It doesn’t change the principle.   Health care services should be universal, but only for citizens and those who are here Read This Posty »

Safety, schools and infrastructure should be first
September 21st, 2007 9:31 am

Dear Mayor Newsom:   While I generally agree with your policies and I am endorsing you for mayor, I completely disagree with your universal health care proposal.  As a tax payer in San Francisco, I believe this is misuse of our tax dollars.  I specifically oppose extending universal health care to people who are here illegally.  Once again, hard working, tax paying, home owning citizens of San Francisco are footing the bill for another city sponsored subsidy program.  I'll get behind these kinds of programs after the city fixes the roads, hires more police officers, fixes the schools, and upgrades the Read This Posty »
