Homeless in Union Square
July 25th, 2007 8:04 am

I would like to know what I can do to help the homeless people that I see in Union square? It is sad and unsightly. Joann Deal Read This Posty »

Why does Heather Fong still have a job?
July 24th, 2007 11:06 pm

My latest pet peeve is that mayor Newsom and the San Francisco Police Department have ignored the pleas from me and many other law-abiding San Franciscans to do SOMETHING about the crime and violence in our neighborhoods. Routinely when I call the police non-emergency line about homeless camping, people fighting, or people shooting up in doorways next to my apartment, NOTHING is done.  Sometimes I'm lied to that something will be done or was done the last time I called.  In all cases, I am ignored.  I've posted repeatedly on this very pet peeve blog my experiences dealing with the police Read This Posty »

Homeless Drug Users
July 24th, 2007 1:13 am

Dear C.W., Your article this morning featuring the homeless camps in our beautiful Golden Gate Park was right on the mark.  The Mayor's last sweep did make a difference to those of us who live near the park (Haight Ashbury).  The scores of homeless who mine Haight street for money by day, retreat to these camps by night to use drugs and alcohol and warm by fires.  The sweep helped end this cycle for a few months.  Sadly they re-establish camps quickly.  The Mayor has not done another sweep since.  It needs to be Read This Posty »

Pandering to Poverty Pimps
July 23rd, 2007 8:00 am

Where to begin... The beggars plying their trade in this city are not "homeless" and it would be nice if I could go to the store w/out constantly being accosted!  We need laws enforced for the benefit of taxpaying citizens, so firing the incompetent token of a police chief would be a good start.  And btw, Polk street from Union on down is a sewer.  Aren't there laws on the books about keeping the front of businesses CLEAN?   The DPW is MIA in SF.  Enough pandering to poverty pimps and bums and throwing good $ away on gangs who respond to Read This Posty »

Homeless at Hallidie Plaza
July 13th, 2007 7:38 pm

I'm sitting here looking out my apartment window at the gang of 5 or 6 homeless who have made camp in Hallidie Plaza by the Powell St. BART station.  They're there when I go to work, when I go to school, when I go to dinner, when I go to catch a train, when I come home from work, when I come home from school, when I look out my window. Their bags and garbage and guitars and skateboards strewn about the plaza.  Their litter blowing all over the place in the wind.  I see people shooting up in the plaza, Read This Posty »

Homeless Doing Drugs in Front of My House
July 9th, 2007 7:50 pm

There is a guy that lives in his van right out in front of my house. Homeless people pull up with there shopping carts and do drugs with the owner of this van. This van takes up two parking spaces (where parking is limited) and does not move for days and his garbage is thrown about outside of his van. I want to know why this guy can live out in the front of my house and can do as he wishes? I have called the police uncountable times and they can't seem to get these guy out of here!!!!! Aggressive Homeless People
July 6th, 2007 7:26 am

My pet peeve is homeless people who are taking advantage of an overly tolerant city -- and to make matters worse, they are becoming increasingly aggressive. If you are in a park, on muni, or just walking down the street, you are likely to experience or witness an aggressive homeless person. Name Withheld Read This Posty »

Handouts for Homeless?
July 5th, 2007 7:54 am

I just want to know what Gavin *does* when the homeless approach him, or when he sees a homeless person -- does he/you walk on by? Do you give handouts? I've been told NOT to give money, but it kills me to just walk on by and I think it contributes to complacancy -- you start becoming numb. It would be helpful to me to know what Gavin personally does. Tanya Houseman Read This Posty »

Lucky Alley Stinks to High Heaven
July 2nd, 2007 8:08 am

Now its been a month since lucky alley has been cleaned.  It's full of trash and other crap and filthy and stinks to high heaven. I guess folks in the mission just go with the luck of the draw.  I think i might just start throwing my garbage out the window along with the rest of  the trash out there. It also needs a power wash as the lovely homeless folks use it for a toilet. So goes life in the ghetto. Ron Norlin Read This Posty »

Bums and Left Wing Socialists
June 27th, 2007 8:55 am

Too many bums on the street and on the board of supervisors. Too many left wing socialists in gov. Dirty streets, medical  marijuana shops, illegal aliens being protected from repatriation, no ROTC in schools etc., etc. This city I use to love now I can not wait to move out. Low income housing residents need more access to healthier food
June 26th, 2007 8:22 am

Over abundance of stores that sell cheap alcohol around 6th and Howard-Mission area!  It is all well and good to support alcohol and substance abuse reduction in an effort to help addicted homeless persons, but actions work better than words.  It is sad how so many of the small "mom and pop" stores sell little or no fresh food -  just cheap alcohol and a bit of snack or processed  foods.  Residents in the low income housing need more access to healthier food items, (fruit! veggies!) and far less access to the cheap alcohol that poisons them and further accelerates Read This Posty »

The most useless police department in the world
June 25th, 2007 7:49 am

When is someone going to do something about the human vermin that infests this city? It would appear in the downtown area that one cannot walk a block, without three or four homeless people sticking a cup in your face expecting you to throw cash at them. It is a disgrace that this situation is not being addressed. It would not be tolerated in any other city in the world.  If you make a perfectly safe, but illegal left turn onto Geary from Powell, you will find a motorcycle cop ready to pounce on you. Not a chance in hell Read This Posty »

Hyde street!!!
June 21st, 2007 8:19 am

The 500 block in particular. What has HAPPENED to this street lately? I've lived here for only a year but I've only seen it get progressively worse. Heavy drug use and sales, trash, graffiti, homeless setting up camp on the street, etc. I've recently called the police on 3 separate occasions while witnessing illegal activity, and each time, after waiting for more than 45 minutes for them to arrive, I just gave up, thinking that somehow these problems aren't a priority for the SFPD any longer. I guess that's what happens if no one cares enough to prosecute them either. Read This Posty »

Does no one work for the SFPD anymore?
June 18th, 2007 8:05 am

How come that every time I make a call to the SFPD, I am told the reason that I am calling is not a priority (someone breaking into a vehicle, homeless persons assaulting passer-bys, red light runners, etc).  Does no one work for the SFPD anymore? Name Withheld Read This Posty »

6th & Market St.
June 15th, 2007 7:53 am

Dear Gavin - My name is Steve, and I work near the corner of Market and 6th Streets for a publishing company.  Currently, we are at the mid-way point of our ten year lease of this sixth story office building.  Other tenants include SMWM (Architects), with Radio Shack and House of Blue Jeans on ground level.   Yesterday, I arranged to have Captain Denis O'Leary (SFPD/Southern Station) come speak at a town hall meeting, here at the office, to discuss the many concerns we have regarding this neighborhood.  As you know, this particular section of the Central Market Street district, Read This Posty »

First to the Board of Supervisors: Are you reading this blog?
June 15th, 2007 7:40 am

Do you see what you have let this once beautiful city become? Do you see the fury that people are beginning to feel about what you have let happen? Some of you have been on the board for almost as long as homelessness has been a problem. And what I remember is that all you could come up with was to fight any real attempt to fix this problem. Consider Daly right now trying to take money away from the community court idea, not because he actually believes in anything or has any plan of his own, but just to put Read This Posty »

You were elected in part to solve the homeless problem
June 15th, 2007 7:19 am

It is far from solved. I work in the Financial District and every other corner has a homeless person or beggar.  This is ridiculous.  How can you promote business and tourism if there are homeless sleeping and begging in front of the former Pacific Stock Exchange.  I will not vote for you until you follow through.  Why don't you walk through the district any morning.  You'll see what I mean. Homeless Man in Front of Bryans Market
June 14th, 2007 9:11 am

I work in laurel village and there is a homeless man who is in front of Bryans Market everyday. His name is mike. He needs a place to live, general assistance medical care and a thoughtful drug program. Is there any way some one from the city can come out there and talk to him? Name Withheld Read This Posty »
