The Board of Supervisors and North Beach
January 27th, 2008 3:08 pm

Could there be a more selfish neighborhood in SF (maybe all of the country)?  No yogurt!  No late night pizza!  No new housing!  No!!! No!!! No more alcohol!!!!  No street fair!!! What a joke.  There is a crime, murder, homeless, trash, MUNI, housing, etc. problem in town.  If these spoiled and selfish clowns looked around for once and focused even a quarter of that energy they waste on killing businesses and entertainment in this TOWN maybe we would actually be progressing and solving some problems here in SF. Not solving the homeless problem
January 3rd, 2008 12:51 pm

It has been reported that Mayor Newsom recently ridiculed former New York City Mayor Rudy Guiliani's advise on solving the homeless problem.  Given the increasing numbers of homeless people in San Francisco despite the hundreds of millions being spent by the city, our mayor is in no position to ridicule the advise of a former mayor who brought the homeless problem under control in his city by providing shelter space to all NYC's homeless and not allowing them to sleep on the streets. Why Mayor Newsom has not followed this plan is a mystery.   Instead, our mayor devised a 10-year homeless Read This Posty »

What’s wrong with this picture?
November 16th, 2007 10:20 am

What are you doing for the people who pay taxes in this city and are funding all of your giveaway programs?  I can't afford to buy a home, but I can support the homeless and  pay for healthcare for everyone.  What's wrong with this picture? Jim Marshall Read This Posty »

We need more parking
November 8th, 2007 2:44 pm

I am incredibly disappointed that Gavin came out publicly AGAINST Prop H! We need more parking and the transit first policy is not realistic for a really livable city. As a homeowner with a family and no garage it is incredibly difficult - try going shopping for the week with 5 bags of groceries a stroller w/ 2 year old on muni. There is a lot of talk about trying to keep families from moving out of the City ... further restricting parking doesn't help. Craig Read This Posty »

Gavin Newsom does not keep his word, Part II
November 2nd, 2007 9:07 am

On February 17, 2005, the San Francisco Examiner reported that that Mayor Newsom said that homeless women do not belong in the city's shelter system, and he promised to move 300 women out of the shelters into private housing.  This promise has been broken.  Two years after Newsom's promise, there were more women in the shelter system than when Newsom made his promise.  Specifically, according to city records, there were 523 women in the shelter system in the month of December 2004, and in January 2007, this number increased to 554.  Does Newsom believe that his promises have any meaning? Gavin Newsom does not keep his word
November 1st, 2007 7:58 am

On September 15, 2004, the Chronicle reported that Newsom promised to move 149 elderly homeless people from the shelters, which he described as "disgraceful," to permanent housing within six months, and, in general, to move the "most vulnerable ... out of the shelter system."  Two (plus) years later, city records show that there were 300 homeless seniors (age 60 and older) still in the shelters during January 2007.  This is an increase from the 295 homeless seniors in the shelters during December 2004, shortly after Newsom made his promise.  Does Newsom believe his promises have any meaning? Homeless with no place to go
October 31st, 2007 9:19 am

The Newsom administration has no plan to remove homeless people from the streets.  When his administration began, there were over 1800 shelter beds; today there are 1212 shelter beds (according to city records). How do you move homeless people off the street if the number of shelter beds are being reduced.  Newsom may talk all he wants about his outreach programs, but there are 2771 homeless people on the streets (according to the 2007 homeless report) and most of the shelter space is filled every night.  The fact that there may be some available beds in the shelters because people Read This Posty »

Affordable housing rates at say 400-800 per month per person
October 30th, 2007 11:19 am

I'm a resident of Berkeley and plan on moving to SF within a few months.  Not that this affects me economically but a lot of people mention affordable housing in SF.  I keep seeing construction being done on new apartment complexes in Downtown through Mission Bay that don't even offer affordable housing rates at say 400-800 per month per person.  I REALLY don't want SF to be turned into an upscale-oriented community where rent prices are too high and more minorities are being forced to leave the city.  If there can be anything done to address this issue, I would Read This Posty »

Middle class people can’t buy housing in SF
October 30th, 2007 11:14 am

My biggest peeve is the fact that middle class people can't buy housing in sf. This is not a peeve it's an outrageous situation. The beauty and culture of SF has worked against itself...making it out of reach to most people who are in fact those who make the city great.... Lawraine Smith Read This Posty »

Why are lower and middle class workers being pushed out?
October 29th, 2007 10:53 am

We need every citizen.  We need every family.  Why are lower and middle class workers being pushed out?  The character of the city as our collection of "villages" is touted as an attraction, unless a corporate interest shows up.  Then the village goes out the window and money talks.  Do not allow neighborhood establishments and individually owned apartment buildings to be swallowed up in Polk Village.  Down with Luisa Hanson and down with Trophy Properties/Citiapartments. Treasure Island Playground Equipment
October 22nd, 2007 8:02 am

I live on Treasure Island, and I noticed in the newspaper that the Mayor was upset about the playground equipment being burned twice at the Sunnydale housing projects.  Well the same thing happened to the playground out here.  And Catholic Charities has done nothing about it.  I contacted the Fire Department about it and the children seen me talking to them and the terrorized me for over 4 months.  They knocked out my windows, put a pyrotechnic device on my porch and lit it, and tried to assault me with sticks and rocks.  I would like the Mayor to get Read This Posty »

Not Impressed with Free Health Care
October 10th, 2007 12:07 pm

Dear Mayor Newsom:   I would like to inform you that I am not at all impressed with your plan to give all uninsured residents in San Francisco free health care.  I am a seventy one (71) year old woman who has lived in San Francisco for sixty five (65) years.  I own a home in District 7 which I have to maintain.  I retired from the Federal Government in 1991 after 36 1/2 years of service.  I live on a fixed income and receive approximately a 2.9% Cost of Living Increase (COLA) each year.  $157.00 is taken out of my Read This Posty »

Crack Problem in the Tenderloin
September 26th, 2007 12:04 pm

Universal health care sounds great. How do you feel about the Tenderloin crack problem? At least a dozen people openly smoke crack all hours of the day on Jones St. between O'Farrell  and Ellis. They are quite loud all hours of the night and make rude comments to woman of all ages. Open urination and defecation by these people are also major problems...I work and vote and unfortunately the Tenderloin is the only area I can barely afford to make rent. I'll keep voting for new officials till I notice real change around here. I did not vote for Chris Read This Posty »

Stop Union Busting
September 26th, 2007 11:57 am

I am glad that you Gavin, are trying to do something about our SF HC System.  But please stop letting all of the non-union businesses into our City that has a long history of being a Union town.  We need our Unions, we need to support our working people in SF.  God knows there are so few left due to the high prices of housing in SF.  I am so glad that I can live here but only because I bought my house so long ago.  STOP UNION BUSTING we are in a crisis here.  Let's problem solve instead of Read This Posty »

Not enough home owners and get rid of the homeless
September 24th, 2007 7:53 am

-Increase home ownership.  Ownership stake creates a more caring and attentive community. -Streamline the building permit process.  It shouldn't take a year to add a deck to your house. -Get rid of the homeless.  They do not belong on our otherwise beautiful city. Name Withhled Read This Posty »

Can’t afford to live here

Can’t Afford to Live Here
September 6th, 2007 1:29 am

What bothers me about San Francisco is that the Mayor has not fulfilled his promises, he has been involved in numerous scandals, and the working class CAN NOT afford to live here for sake of tourism. Thanks, thanks for everything Gavin! Joe M Read This Posty »

Mayor Not Solely Repsonsible for the State of GGP
July 25th, 2007 8:23 am

I think it is patently ludicrous to place the blame solely on Mayor Gavin Newsom for the state of Golden Gate Park. No matter what solutions the mayor or anyone else is city government will come up are for naught because of the outcries of the so-called "homeless advocates" every time a potential idea is raised. This city has let tolerance and liberalism with regard to the homeless problem get out of control. These self-proclaimed advocates for the homeless actually believe, and have stated as such, that people have a right to be homeless, and should be able to set up Read This Posty »
