I have been living at 540 Jones for 2 yrs.. The Shalimar restaurant and they use mequit charcoal to cook their food. The smoke makes it hard to breath. Next door at the Nile cafe, they use mesquite to lite their hookah's to smoke their tobacco. We have a hard time breathing their smoke too. The fire marshal and police have been notified and nobody does anything. I suppose we don't matter. The police said they don't see the fire pit at the Nie cafe, so I guess it doesn't exist..PLEASE HELP BEFORE WE ARE DEAD FROM SMOKE INHALATION.

I live in the Tenderloin. What are you going to do about open drug sales on O'Farrell & Jones. Everybody talks nobody accomplishes anything.

For 16 years, I have lived on Geary Street, between Jones and Leavenworth, and until recently, I have loved this neighborhood for its "local color," its convenience, its steady flow of visitors from around the country and the rest of the world, its excellent restaurants and galleries and theatres, etc. But in the last 3 or 4 years, the neighborhood has steadily deteriorated. To put it bluntly... it seems that the hookers and pimps and drug dealers/buyers and other assorted derelicts have marched steadily north from the Tenderloin, thus making Geary Street from Leavenworth to downtown just as dirty and Read This Posty »

I live in the Tenderloin (Chris Daly's district, unfortunately) on O'Farrell near Jones. Most every day there is a nexus of "homeless" people and drug dealers gathered on the corner, littering, smoking crack, blocking the sidewalk, and generally bringing the quality of life in the neighborhood down for the rest of us. I've complained to police, but they do nothing. I'd like to see more enforcement in areas where these ne'er-do-wells concentrate. One or two of these people in a spot is one thing, but I often count up to 20 people gathered on this one corner. Get some police Read This Posty »

I live in Russian Hill--around Jones and Greenwich. People are leaving garbage on the corners all the time--things that they don't want. I know that the DPT picks it up but it is so unsightly. My biggest pet peeve, however, is the overall garbage problem in SF--it went from a very clean city to a dirty, garbage ridden city. What can we do to clean things up?

Mayor Newsom,
I live on California Street, between Leavenworth and Jones. My shopping area includes the Cala store at Hyde, Walgreens on Polk, and many coffee shops and small business's on Polk Street.
Every day I encounter at least 3 men sleeping on the sidewalk. They are filthy and they sure don't look healthy. I have some questions:
1. Why do we have to allow them in my neighborhood, but not yours?
2. With all the social activism on the Board of Supervisors, why aren't these most pathetic men given better care?
3. Is it really an important civil right for them to be Read This Posty »
