I am thrilled to live in a city which attracts and encourages so many diverse activities. Fleet Week was an amazing show of hospitality and community which is the heart of San Francisco. However, The Marina, our little quaint yet a tad affluent community suffers drastically with the events held on the Marina Green and Fort Mason.
The Green is still suffering the damage of cooking oil being allowed to be dumped on the grass, plastic rip ties littering and mass amounts of plastic waste which is blowing into the Bay.
Last night was the conclusion of Oktoberfest, now, don't get Read This Posty »

In the Marina, especially on Chestnut St., it's a huge problem; there are a few that allow regular parking after 1pm Mon-Fri and after 11am on Sat. - but there should be more of them!

You can't come out of your driveway and the cars are speeding up the beat you. You cant walk across the street for fear of being run over. It's supposed to be a family neighbourhood but the kid's cant walk or play near the street's. Please please !!!!!! I ASK YOU TO PUT MORE STOP SIGNS ON VICENTE BETWEEN SUNSET AND 19TH AVE OR SOME KID IS GOING TO GET RUN OVER. Just take a count of the cars that use Vicente St. everyday and i bet you'll agree there needs to be something done about it. This is the Read This Posty »

As a proud resident of the Marina I take great joy in seeing a multitude of International visitors flocking and supporting our beautiful city.
Recently there have been the removal of the unsightly garbage tips and in their place a few garbage receptors doted along the Marina Green.
The pet peeve comes from the garbage is not collected enough to accommodate the sheer volume of trash from the residents, visitors and the numerous limos and buses having a quick bite to eat and then tossing their trash, KFC, Safeway and the likes into full bins.
This is a veritable buffet for the Read This Posty »

Dear Gavin,
I'm new to San Francisco and love living in this wonderful city. Thank you for all you do to keep SF unique. My pet peeve is why a lovely neighborhood like the Marina puts up with its dirty sidewalk conditions e.g. Chestnut Street. I just visited San Diego and was impressed with how clean their city is. Could shop keepers and property owners do more to maintain their section of the sidewalks or is this a city maintenance issue? I realize my pet peeve is small compared to the recent increase in Marina crime which of course Read This Posty »

What can we do to repeal the stupid legislation that keeps officers from protecting our neighborhood?

Hopefully this gets to Gavin...
Gavin,
We've met and socialized a bit down at Balboa over the past year or two - I believe we share many friendships from the neighborhood.
I've been living in the Marina for almost 8 years now, and the latest crime in our area has become very personal to me as close friends of mine have been held up at gun point and stripped of all their belongings. After a bit of investigation, it turns out that over 11 incidents have occurred here recently, all have been attributed to the same group/gang. The disturbing piece is Read This Posty »

Once I get off the beautiful GG bridge and onto Marina Blvd I feel like my car is going to explode. The pothole situation is embarassing and really makes me wonder if you are waiting for the next big quake to wipe out the Marina before you decide to put money into repaving its streets.

Imagine my utter horror when I came home to my house one Saturday afternoon to find a prostitute sitting on my front steps talking on a cell phone. I can't even go into the details of what I saw because it was too horrific a experience.
I live in the Marina too which is not a place you would expect to find a prostitute, especially one trying to solicit in front of your house. I heard from my neighbor that there is a motel somewhere down Lombard Street that is notorious for prostitution. Please help! I don't know what to Read This Posty »

I'm getting really concerned about the increase in graffiti and car break-ins in the city. I've especially noticed a huge increase in car break-ins within the Marina district. I've seen countless piles of broken glass from car windows getting smashed in on my street, and the surrounding blocks. My friend even had his registration stolen from his car during broad daylight. I don't feel safe anymore. Please help save the Marina from crime.

Gavin: Get out of the bars and start working. It's embarrassing when we have a progressive, active city and a frat boy mayor. I don't want to see my city's leader playing Tom Cruise in Cocktail at a bar, or picking up Marina chicks. Get a therapist, stop sowing your oats in public, and do your job.

My pet peeve is the apparent non-responsiveness of the police with regard to smaller crimes. 1) I live in the Marina, and practically every day I see a car whoís glass has been shattered and broken into. This is a common occurrence. While working out at Synergy Fitness on Northpoint, a woman, along with several trainers at the fitness club, witnessed a man break into the woman's Range Rover and then get into a car which sped off. They reported it to police, along with the license plate. Several days later, the same man was once again witnessed to break Read This Posty »
