Mr. Mayor,
I hope that you or one of your trusted staff can spare a little time to address an issue that affects most residents in the city. A growing percentage of motorcycle riders that live in or frequent our beautiful city have, with malicious intent, installed straight pipes or non-baffled exhaust systems. Loud mufflers seem to be more about boosting egos, setting off car alarms, and scarring our children as they sleep - than promoting safety with the moronic belief that “Loud pipes save lives”. All of us I think are entitled to a reasonable level of quiet and Read This Posty »

Sunday September 9 at 12pm there are hundreds of motorcycles taking over the parking lot at 3rd and Harrison. The bus lanes and sidewalks are full of cycles. The traffic is at a standstill. Mayor, there is one police car, and both officers are standing among the bikes, for nearly a hour, doing NOTHING. When will you actually make Heather Fong and her team do their jobs and police people?

Still the motorcycles glide into town. Still they make more noise than is legal, much more noise. Still no one does anything about it. Still the noise is so loud that it vibrates the car alarms along Van Ness. Again I state, if these were automobiles they would be written up for violating the noise level restrictions. Why are motorcycles allowed to violate without consequences? I wish we could share the noise with all but as fortune should have it, most motorcycles come into town on 101 and pass through town on 101. Read This Posty »

Trash and recycling collection before 8am (which wakes us up as early as 6am!!); and the fact that there is something wrong with MUNI almost every single day (and that it's just filthy).

A simple solution is to enforce the noise limit laws. No one driving a car could get away with the noise that people riding motorcycles is allowed to get away with. This isn't rocket science. It is simply law enforcement. While you are at it, enforce graffiti, panhandling, and bikes off the sidewalks.

We just returned from Tokyo and it is so quite on the streets. For those of us who have bedroom windows facing busy streets, this would be a blessing.

It's miserable. It's too cold here. We are trying to grow our own food but it's hopeless. (Thank you for letting me vent.)
Otherwise, I would complain about loud motorcycles and noise pollution mostly from traffic. There are no quiet zones. Not enough trees. And trucks and cars that leave their motors running while parked or double parked.

Why not encourage people to take up less space on the street by allowing them to park between cars? If they are willing to risk their bike being knocked over, what's the harm?

But things have really taken a turn for the worse on my formerly-quiet North Panhandle block.
We've seen a HUGE increase in the number of ridiculously loud motorcycles dragging up and down our street at 2, 3, 4am in the morning. Why is it impossible for the police in this town to enforce noise pollution ordinances? It's easy to hear them coming, and it's easy to spot a bike without a muffler. Here's an idea: as much as I hate speed radars, I'd love to see something similar for sound pollution - crank your hog above a certain decibel off that Read This Posty »

When men with small wieners think that reving the engine on their motorcycles so loud that it sets off car alarms will make it grow bigger. You're not cool and you still have a small wiener.

I am amazed at the unbelievably loud motorcycles that come through our city. This past weekend, with the Hells' Angels event in Oakland was the worst. Don't we have noise regulations that should be enforced? If not, can we implement some? I view this as noise pollution, and can't imagine there would be a lot of people who would object to restricting the noise output of vehicles in our city.

I live near Pier 39, and every weekend when the weather is nice, the motorcycles pass by my apartment. They purposefully rev their engines, setting off every car alarm in the area. All weekend long, I hear unnecessarily loud motorcycles and car alarms. The bikers know exactly what they are doing. They are purposefully disturbing the peace. They should be cited for their behavior. Does the city have a noise ordinance?

How about ticketing ear drum shattering motorcylists with the same zeal the city has for expired parking meters?

My biggest would be the incesant crack/meth smoking/dealing on the Hyde street blocks below Sutter Street. This has seemed to become a true haven for users/dealers lately and I RARELY see police addressing this excrutiatingly preditable activity. Also, NEVER seen a Muni official stop people from entering the back of 38 line during rush hour. It is claimed they do, but I've nebver missed a ride in 3 years living here and haven't seen even ONE yet. WHY do I continue to pay $45/month when it is THAT easy to steal a ride?! Lastly, those damn Harley Davidsons. They could Read This Posty »
