MUNI! Most recently (within the past month) I have boarded the inbound N or T Metro at approx. 5:40 PM @ Harrison/Embarcadero when the fare box has been out of order and the driver has refused to issue a transfer so that I could transfer to the J.
Since I use the $15 Muni coupon book - this causes two problems: (1) Non payment of fares and loss of revenue (2) Exposing passengers to the risk of being ticketed by an inspector on arrival at the next station before transferring to the next train, assuming the fare box is in Read This Posty »

My pet peeve is MUNI. There are still NO MUNI SCHEDULES PRINTED & WIDELY DISTRIBUTED. I called 311 three times yesterday while waiting for the #12 bus. Each time they flat out lied to me. I was told they were using GPS to track the bus but they had no clue. One of the operators said they don't print bus schedules because of budget cuts and I can get "accurate" information about arrival times by using up my mobile minutes to keep calling her. She was also the same lady who assured me the bus was five blocks away even Read This Posty »

Professionals living in such a great city as San Francisco have the right to be able to commute to and from work in a dignified manner using public transportation! Instead, as a rule (not exception), we are sandwiched in on the bus, often with drunks, drug addicts and REEKING homeless people. We need more frequent buses (I ride the 38 line), we need drivers to be accountable for not showing up to work, and please tell the drivers not to let stinky homeless people on. Forget fairness and treating everyone with respect - it is utterly unfair to force everyone Read This Posty »

For sometime now since the Art Academy (Pres. Elisa Stephens) took over the YWCA Bldg. off Sutter and Mason Sts, their shuttle buses continually stop/park on the zone reserved for loading bus passengers. As the Muni driver(s) cannot pull over to the curb, because the Academy's buses are in the bus zone, the disabled passengers have a very difficult time getting on the bus. I called the Dept. of Parking and nothing has been done. Please follow-up on this issue.
Thank You!

Dear Mayor Newsom:
I would like to inform you that I am not at all impressed with your plan to give all uninsured residents in San Francisco free health care. I am a seventy one (71) year old woman who has lived in San Francisco for sixty five (65) years. I own a home in District 7 which I have to maintain. I retired from the Federal Government in 1991 after 36 1/2 years of service. I live on a fixed income and receive approximately a 2.9% Cost of Living Increase (COLA) each year. $157.00 is taken out of my Read This Posty »

More and more you can see city employees -- MUNI drivers, meter maids, and even police -- on their cell phones while on duty. MUNI has enough problems without having distracted drivers or drivers who seem to be more interested in their private conversations than in customer service or even, God forbid, driving safety. MUNI and the police should be setting examples of responsible, aware driving behavior. Undoubtedly some of their conversations probably are work related. But telling by the expressions on their faces while driving and cell phoning as well as the general enthusiasm they are showing on those Read This Posty »

I got a letter yesterday from a friend I had written to about the ruination of SF by drunks and those who advocate public drunkenness and its attendant filth (aka "Homeless Advocates"). His response contained a sentence that I think sums it all up: "Living up here in Seattle, I see some of the same creeping consensus to do nothing so as to offend no one but irritate nearly all." Perfect.
This is for Jessica below who has the van in front of her house. You ask what rights you have? In the eyes of the people who run this city: Read This Posty »

MUNI bus drivers seem to think that it's okay for THEM to run the red light, just because they're in City vehicles. On Saturday evening, around 6 PM, I was at the intersection of Stockton/Washington (in front of Jade Galore Jewelry) with a bunch of other people, waiting to cross. The walk signal appeared and just as we were about to step off the curb, a MUNI bus that ran the RED light honked at us all to step back. Naturally, we had to, as the bus was so close to the curb, there was no getting around it. Since Read This Posty »

A MUNI bus not pulling into the curb and letting the rear end of the bus stick out so that traffic cannot get around it. However, the fine is huge if a car is parked in the area that is reserved for a bus at a bus stop.

Dear Gavin,
My pet peeve concerns Muni LRVs and their drivers, especially those on the N-Judah line, which is where I live. The problem is twofold. (1) The horns with which these cars are equipped are way too loud (and thus illegal), and (2) A number of Muni operators routinely use their horns inappropriately.
First, the Muni cars appear to be equipped with air horns. Air horns are illegal in California, as they should be, along with any horn that emits an "unreasonably loud or harsh sound." (See California Vehicle Code Section 27000: http://www.dmv.ca.gov/pubs/vctop/d12/vc27000.htm) The Muni LRV horns must be disabled Read This Posty »

I have been using public transportation in SF for a long time. Bus drivers! I noticed in recent years, most of them are downright mean and hostile. If riding a bus is not such a terrible experience and also run on something resembling a schedule, I'm sure more people would use public transportation, thus lessening the traffic problems and pollution. I really think this is achievable here in a beautiful city like SF. I know drivers have to deal with adersities but who doesn't? Sometimes, 3 buses all come at the same time, some of them speeding at a break Read This Posty »

Walking back from the dentist today (no cavities, thank you very much) I saw something that really made me wince. Right there on a crowded downtown union square street corner (Geary and Stockton) at 3pm, some short punky guy is personalizing the public bus with a purple etch-a-sketch marker. I can't figure out what it says of course, but that's the point of graffiti isn't it? The most remarkable fact was that about 10 onlookers were just STANDING there watching him!
As I walked past the stopped bus, trying to figure out why no one was saying anything, the vandalist jogs Read This Posty »

Routes have been eliminated or altered that adversely effect commuters; there are more frequent delays with little or no explanation to commuters as to what is happening. The service levels from the drivers themselves are terrible and many of them are rude and hostile to their passengers. During higher volume commute times cars that should be two car trains have been down graded to one car trains. It is as if there no thought put into increasing service levels, rather we have one of the poorest municipal transit services I have ever seen, and a service that not worthy of Read This Posty »

In general, they tend to be not very nice and rude. Not all of them but most. Also, I wish they were not such horrible drivers. I can understand it is not an easy job - I wouldn't want it. Still, must they take it out on us?

Mayor Newsom,
I am a native and one thing that gets me is that I know the City has traffic problems and so when I can, I use the Muni but the system is rarely on time, some drivers have bad attitudes, the stations and stops are sometimes dirty. I've been to other countries, EU and Japan especially and they have systems you can set a watch by and crewed by true professionals and I wonder why this international city that I love has such a poor showing on this point? Somehow I feel it is our government's poor negotiations to Read This Posty »

It is in front of CPMC-California Campus which is for pregnant women and children. Nobody ever stops to let people use the crosswalk, including (and especially!) the MUNI drivers. A bright sign and cone in the middle of the street and on either side might shame some folks into following the law before there is a tragedy.

It is frustrating to get around in this city. I've contemplated buying a car just to get from point A to point B on time, and it seems like our MUNI woes are recursive. People can't get where they want to go in a reliable manner so they use cars which clog the streets and make it harder for MUNI drivers to navigate which makes the busses later which makes more people opt for cars...
I also believe that reliable public transit would help on a number of other fronts. People who are in economic hardship are likely to be forced Read This Posty »

Dear Mayor Newsom,
I voted for you last time and I have to honestly say I'm on the fence this time. I acknowledge the progress you've made in many big areas, but what irks me is the seeming stagnation of the day-to-day progress of basic city services -- and the one that gives me the most agita is of course, MUNI. Mayor Newsom, how is it that in 3 1/2 years MUNI, from this daily rider's perspective - is not one iota improved? I'm not talking Muni Metro - I'm talking about the crowded, broken down buses. I'm talking about the Read This Posty »

I just wrote a list of my pet peeves.........and I forgot one of the worst...........the BUSES!!!!!!! They think they own the road and can pull out in front of you or into you when you are passing because they are loading passengers or are on a break...........most of them have "an attitude" and think they rule the roads.......
