M and N Lines Confusing
June 26th, 2007 8:26 am

On the MUNI, it's easy to confuse the M and N lines as they both contain the word "Ocean" in the name.  I know that I, along with others, have mistakenly taken one for the other.  This should be simplified and made clearer for riders! Name Withheld Read This Posty »

MUNI Getting Worse
June 26th, 2007 8:16 am

Dear Gavin, My pet peeve concerns Muni LRVs and their drivers, especially those on the N-Judah line, which is where I live.  The problem is twofold.  (1) The horns with which these cars are equipped are way too loud (and thus illegal), and (2) A number of Muni operators routinely use their horns inappropriately.  First, the Muni cars appear to be equipped with air horns.  Air horns are illegal in California, as they should be, along with any horn that emits an "unreasonably loud or harsh sound."  (See California Vehicle Code Section 27000: http://www.dmv.ca.gov/pubs/vctop/d12/vc27000.htm)  The Muni LRV horns must be disabled Read This Posty »

Public transportation, namely, buses
June 25th, 2007 8:02 am

I complained about this before but one of the solution around downtown area traffic congestion is "FEWER BUS STOPS".  There are too many bus stops!  Sometimes, there are 2 in one small block.  One bus stop for 2 blocks each is more than adequate.  Name Withheld Read This Posty »

Please don’t give up on us as other mayors have done in the past
June 25th, 2007 7:56 am

My pet peeve is the drug dealing in the Bayview community, the drug addicts and their stealing and robbing people and the T train.  We are coming to realize the T train is not the benefit we were told it was going to be. Parking is terrible, the traffic lights don't hold long enough on the cross streets (there is not enough time to walk across or drive across 3rd before the light turns red on you) and the distances between left turns off of 3rd street are few and far between. I would like to see more police cars Read This Posty »

MUNI Irritations
June 25th, 2007 7:47 am

MUNI - why am I irritated before I get to the office - just by taking MUNI?  Why is it that there are more MUNI trains going to the ballpark during home commute hours - and no trains going the other way. We can't have big ideas ideas like Green City if we can't convince people to take public transportation. Unfortunately, people have lost their trust. The Mayor needs to remove all the Board and the current executive director and have them be responsible. The Mayor should send anonymous patrols riding MUNI that report directly to him on what they Read This Posty »

Bus Drivers!
June 22nd, 2007 10:53 am

I have been using public transportation in SF for a long time.  Bus drivers!  I noticed in recent years, most of them are downright mean and hostile.  If riding a bus is not such a terrible experience and also run on something resembling a schedule, I'm sure more people would use public transportation, thus lessening the traffic problems and pollution.  I really think this is achievable here in a beautiful city like SF.  I know drivers have to deal with adersities but who doesn't?  Sometimes, 3 buses all come at the same time, some of them speeding at a break Read This Posty »

Corrupt Supervisors and MUNI
June 22nd, 2007 10:50 am

Corrupt supervisors need to go to jail and corrupt building department employees need to go to jail. I pay too much to live in this city to stand for this corruption. Muni needs to be fixed. It is badly broken. Name Withheld Read This Posty »

Exceptionally Loud Motorcycles

Graffiti Happens - Don’t turn a Blind Eye if you witness it
June 20th, 2007 7:28 am

Walking back from the dentist today (no cavities, thank you very much) I saw something that really made me wince. Right there on a crowded downtown union square street corner (Geary and Stockton) at 3pm, some short punky guy is personalizing the public bus with a purple etch-a-sketch marker. I can't figure out what it says of course, but that's the point of graffiti isn't it? The most remarkable fact was that about 10 onlookers were just STANDING there watching him! As I walked past the stopped bus, trying to figure out why no one was saying anything, the vandalist jogs Read This Posty »

SF Bombarded by Ads
June 20th, 2007 7:24 am

We live in an society that is constantly bombarded with advertising images. In SF it's virtually impossible to get from one place to another without being pitched the latest iPod, Windows version or the next blockbuster movie. Why? Because advertising works. People see things, remember them, and act accordingly by making a purchase, telling a friend or altering their own behavior. In order for advertisers to reach their audience they need a medium in which they can communicate their message; the most popular being television, radio, print, web, and open-air (posters, billboards etc.). The organizations that provide access to their audience Read This Posty »

Under your watch MUNI service has gone from bad to worse
June 20th, 2007 7:14 am

Routes have been eliminated or altered that adversely effect commuters; there are more frequent delays with little or no explanation  to commuters as to what is happening.  The service levels from the drivers themselves are terrible and many of them are rude and hostile to their passengers. During higher volume commute times cars that should be two car trains have been down graded to one car trains.  It is as if there no thought put into increasing service levels, rather we have one of the poorest municipal transit services I have ever seen, and a service that not worthy of Read This Posty »

Unreliable N-line and 71 on MUNI
June 18th, 2007 8:09 am

There is very little way to predict when the train will come, and the 71 frequently leaves me waiting for 20 minutes during hours when it is supposed to run every 10 minutes. David St. Martin Read This Posty »

SF public transportation planners can’t get anything right
June 18th, 2007 8:06 am

For goodness sakes, bring back the 15! Whoever had the idea to add another bus route to the chaos that is Chinatown should be fired, immediately.  I now walk 2 miles to and from the Caltrain station because it's faster than the bus.  ludicrous.  Name Withheld Read This Posty »

MUNI Drivers
June 18th, 2007 8:02 am

In general, they tend to be not very nice and rude.  Not all of them but most.  Also, I wish they were not such horrible drivers.  I can understand it is not an easy job - I wouldn't want it.  Still, must they take it out on us? Name Withheld Read This Posty »

Horrid Graffiti Covering Our Great City
June 18th, 2007 8:01 am

Again, I'm writing in hopes that the city will take seriously the horrid graffiti that is covering our great city & do more about it then just the volunteer anti-graffiti program. It just is not enough to have volunteers removing the graffiti. It in my opinion has been on the rise in the last 3 years since I have lived here. We do not hold private owners or the city to cleaning up their homes or buildings. If the mayor is not going to make this important then who is & the city will only continue on a down hill Read This Posty »

I use Muni but the system is rarely on time
June 18th, 2007 7:58 am

Mayor Newsom, I am a native and one thing that gets me is that I know the City has traffic problems and so when I can, I use the Muni but the system is rarely on time, some drivers have bad attitudes, the stations and stops are sometimes dirty.  I've been to other countries, EU and Japan especially and they have systems you can set a watch by and crewed by true professionals and I wonder why this international city that I love has such a poor showing on this point?  Somehow I feel it is our government's poor negotiations to Read This Posty »

MUNI, Cabs and Safety
June 18th, 2007 7:56 am

MUNI - broken system (almost killed by MUNI daily, as a pedestrian and a rider, fares too high for such a bad transit system) Cabs - fares way too high considering that the city's public transit is woefully inept Safety - getting worse in SF, you can feel it in many neighborhoods Schools/Cost of Living - families are fleeing, lifelong residents and multi-generational SF families cannot affors to stay...something is VERY VERY wrong with SF and yet we seem to spend money/resources on other urban planning/social/civic items that make the city more expensive still Gavin, I voted for you and will again, but don't Read This Posty »

First to the Board of Supervisors: Are you reading this blog?
June 15th, 2007 7:40 am

Do you see what you have let this once beautiful city become? Do you see the fury that people are beginning to feel about what you have let happen? Some of you have been on the board for almost as long as homelessness has been a problem. And what I remember is that all you could come up with was to fight any real attempt to fix this problem. Consider Daly right now trying to take money away from the community court idea, not because he actually believes in anything or has any plan of his own, but just to put Read This Posty »
