In the Marina, especially on Chestnut St., it's a huge problem; there are a few that allow regular parking after 1pm Mon-Fri and after 11am on Sat. - but there should be more of them!

I go to the Embarcadero YMCA. Many of the meters around the Y are effective 7 days a week from 7 am to 7 pm. I purchased a parking card to use on the meters since 25 cents only gets you 8 minutes. However, many of the meters around there don't accommodate parking cards. If the City is going to have the meters run 7 days a week, with a quarter only getting you 8 minutes, the City should move quickly to install meters that take parking cards.

The experimental parking meters in North Beach do not give credit full credit of payments in the following situation; a person buys part of allowable time (maybe with all the coins she has) and then returns with change after a purchase but the meter starts at 0 regardless of whether or not all the originally purchased time had elapsed. San Francisco drivers are getting feed up.

Hi, my pet peeve is the difficulty of purchasing parking meter payment cards. Can you please sell them in more locations, perhaps supermarkets or corner stores? The pre-paid card is such a convenient, consumer-friendly idea, but so hard to find -- standing in line for 20 at the office on Howard Street to buy a card is a deterrent.
Thank you!

The fact that the best afterschool program in the city is being run into the ground and no one in city government will lift a finger to help. Tule Elk Park Child Development Center has had funding cut for the last few years. This is the famous CDC that transformed their asphalt "playground" into a lovely garden and park, added an environmental educator and enhanced their art program. It's the crown jewel of the city and now faces cuts that threaten the very programs that parents, educators, local merchants and benefactors helped put together. It is clear evidence that this Read This Posty »

Inability to get a neighborhood parking permit when you live on a street with meters. i think it is robbery to do this. i've lived at 20th and mission for 3 years and i've never been able to leave my car at my residence, because i live on a metered street and all the streets within 3 blocks of me are permitted. i'm just trying to get by, and i have received numerous parking citations. i feel like i'm constantly digging myself out of a hole.

Other cities (San Luis Obispo for example) have re-loadable key-like devices to pay for parking meters electronically --rather than having to carry around 10 lbs of quarters. I think SF should look into it!

THE CITY IS ALWAYS TALKING ABOUT NOT HAVING ENOUGH REVENUE. I HAVE WORKED IN CHINATOWN FOR 3 YRS & HAVE NOTICED THAT MOST OF THE AUTOS ON THE ST. HAVE HANDICAP CARDS. THIS INCLUDES TRUCKS DOING CONSTRUCTION. THE CITY JUST HAS TO LOOK AT THE REVENUE FOR PARKING METERS & KNOW THERE'S A PROBLEM. I HAVE EVEN BEEN APPROACHED TO BUY ONE SO I CAN DRIVE TO WORK & PARK FREE. THIS WAS IN THE CHRONICLE A COUPLE OF MONTHS AGO & STILL NOTHING IS BEING DONE. OVER ALL THE MAYOR IS DOING AN EXCELLENT JOB & WILL VOTE FOR Read This Posty »

It does not make sense to me that people who receive disabled parking stickers automatically do not have to pay for parking meters. Many of those recipients are wealthy professionals with adequate means. Perhaps there should be two types of disabled stickers for parking, one that is free parking entitled through an audit process of their assets and one that is not free.

hi guys,
This one has been bothering me for years and has finally hit all our pocket books here in the city. The retiree ushers that volunteer at the giants stadium all have illegal handicapped placards and park 3-5 hours before the first pitch until 2 hours after the game ends every day all around my building in south beach. This means we have no 1 hour metered or 2 hour unmetered parking in our entire neighborhood for the entire day during any game. It's ridiculous! I've spoken to the Giants front office about it and they are afraid to say Read This Posty »

I'm sick to death of the meter maids and their bad attitudes! I've owned a business in S.F. for 35 years. I have 6 trucks. The meter maids will hide behind cars and write their tickets while we're pulled up in front of our shop garage WHILE the truck is being unloaded. We don't double-park or otherwise harass them. They harass us constantly. Funny that in Pacific Heights, where most of our customer base is, we don't see meter maids every 5 minutes. Is that because they pay more taxes that my business? no way!!! On more than one occasion, Read This Posty »

Double parked delivery trucks on busy streets are dangerous to drivers and pedestrians, often impede Muni buses, and are generally a real problem with driving in San Francisco. All too often, you will see a UPS of FedEX or USPS truck double parked with empty parking spaces nearby - as if the drivers would rather block traffic than walk 10-15 feet with their loads. Beer trucks double park near every corner grocery in the City at some point in the day, again sometimes ignoring open parking spaces nearby.
Worse yet, it is common to see DPT and SFPD officers driving past Read This Posty »

I own a barbershop/spa on 5th and Folsom. I have customers come from all over the bay area. Meters are a joke 25 cents for 6 minutes and only 1 hour time limit? Come on! With all the new high rises going up in SOMA and all the existing parking lots being eaten up by new condo construction the city is going to have a huge mess on it's hands. I'm all for a green city, but you can't expect people to take public transportation if it doesn't work.

Thanks for offering this forum. Several pet peeves that need attention in this city are:
1. Drug use & related jay walking on 6th street.
2. Exorbitant parking meter rates and excessive time limitations, especially in the Union Square district. Residents are challenged to find limited street parking spaces, yet metered spots go empty during business hours as they have 15, 30, and 60 minute limits that are completely impractical for residents and visitors alike.
3. Unclear or nonexisting signage indicating pet restrictions and allowances in city parks.

Newstands blocking parking meters and proliferating along our streets. There should be a limit as to how many stands within a given radius for the same publication.

Parking meter smartcards are terrific but they are sold at very few retail outlets. Make it easy and stop San Franciscans from carrying pounds of quarters to feed our meter habit.

PLEASE enforce fines/citations for people that double park (i.e. Chestnut, Union St., Fillmore, Union Square, Etc.). It's all over the city and has gotten to be so accepted that when I give a small honk to get them to move because they are blocking the street - I'm all of a sudden perceived as the bad guy.
I've heard about the shortfall on parking meter revenue, well, I know a sure way to close that gap!!!

I have lived here for 25 years without a car since I could not afford to have one and public transportation has always been very affordable, accessible and available..
However, I have noticed that fares have gone up but frequency of buses especially have gone down...I often have to wait more than 20 to 30 minutes on many bus lines during the day when I most travel when just 2 or 3 years ago a 10 minute wait was the norm..What this does is makes some buses so crow | |
