It seems everywhere you look in the City there is some kind of construction going on. Or you would think so by all of the construction related parking permits that are posted around town. But what is very troublesome is often these permits are posted for days -- if not weeks or even months -- before any actual work is done. What's worse, is the number of construction permits given out; and they leave their equipment and take up even more spaces.. it's not right for those of us who pay for permits.

There used to be a phone number to report abuse but that was disconnected. Allowing non doctors to give these out is a recipe for abuse and that's what's happening. These should be held only for those unable to walk, not just because you are elderly and have to walk slowly. Also the permanent placards are abused even more. As the population of SF ages, the abuse has become and will get even worst. Stop the abuse and only licensed physicians should be allowed, not nurse practitioners and the like.

Have a friend that I have coffee with on occasion at the Borders bookstore in Stonestown which has about a dozen disabled parking spaces behind the cafe at Borders just outside the back door at Norstroms. Sitting for an hour is amazing too see the clearly not disabled people taking the spaces. I would say it's 8 out of 10 who take these spaces and they are young and have no clearly visual disabilities. I'm
